On-site storage processes are critical components of operational efficiency, particularly in production and assembly systems. While ineffective management of these processes leads to lost time and high costs, effective storage management improves material flow, reduces delays, and lowers costs. This study aims to optimize on-site logistics processes by integrating storage management with the parts supply process on assembly lines. In this thesis, a class based storage policy was adopted on an assembly line located within a facility. The developed integrated mathematical model offers a feasible and cost-effective optimization structure by considering in-site parts supply and storage decisions together. Within the scope of the study, the assignment of station blocks and the selection of transportation vehicle were integrated with layout decisions based on the class based storage policy in the central warehouse. Furthermore, the model aimed to optimize class based part supply cycles within the facility in the central warehouse, supermarket and station cycle. To this end, the model was expanded with two decisions: the assignment of classes to central warehouse sections and the determination of class based cycle frequency. The objective function in the model is; in addition to transportation costs between the central warehouse and supermarket and between supermarket and stations, it holistically minimizes fixed tour costs, supermarket costs, and distance costs. The proposed model aims to minimize total transportation and inventory costs while offering a flexible, low-inventory structure that is fully compatible with lean manufacturing principles. Thus, a sustainable and viable in-plant logistics solution that supports just-in-time manufacturing is proposed.
