Şehbenderzâde Filibeli Ahmet Hilmi doğu ve batı düşünceleri konusunda kendini yetiştirmiş ve bu anlamda ilmi derinliği olan II. Meşrutiyet döneminin önemli mütefekkirlerinden birisidir. Ahmet Hilmi kaleme aldığı yazılarında; Osmanlının geleceği, İslam toplum ve düşüncesinin problemleri, materyalist akımlar ve Müslümanlar arasında birlikteliğin sağlanması gibi konular üzerinde durmuştur. Özellikle İslâm düşüncesinin problemlerine ilişkin ortaya koyduğu tezlerinde, klasik İslâm düşünürü söyleminden ziyade bunları bilimsel bilgi ve yöntemlerle izaha çalışmıştır. Onun çalışmaları sadece o dönemin İslâm toplum ve düşüncesinin problemlerine ışık tutmakla kalmamış, günümüz İslâm toplum ve düşüncesinin de problemlerine ışık tutmuştur.
