Internet Attitudes and Problematic Internet Use of University Students

Özet
The aim of this study is to investigate the university students' attitude towards internet and their problematic Internet use according to gender variable, and the relationship between their attitude towards Internet and problematic Internet use. The survey method was used in the research. The participants were 300 students (150 female, 150 male) at different faculties of Selcuk University. It was found that there was a significant difference in favor of males in their attitude towards Internet, and the problematic Internet use, both in total and sub group points (loneliness and depression, social support, distraction and, diminished impulse control. Another finding is that there was a positive relationship between problematic Internet use in total and some sub group points (loneliness and depression, diminished impulse control) and the students' attitude towards Internet, while there wasn't any relationship between the other sub group points (social support and distraction) and the students' attitude towards Internet.
