The aim of this study is to examine the attitudes of students with hearing impairment toward their peers with special needs who have intellectual disability and/or autism, their levels of social acceptance, and the ways in which these attitudes are shaped within interaction patterns in school life. The study was conducted using a qualitative research approach. Prior to the main implementation, a pilot study was conducted to evaluate the clarity and applicability of the interview form. Following the pilot implementation, the questions were simplified in accordance with the students’ language and communication characteristics, and data obtained from the pilot study were excluded from the final findings. Primary data were collected through semi-structured interviews with students with hearing impairment, teachers, and auxiliary school personnel. The data were analyzed through thematic analysis using qualitative data analysis software, and the generated codes were evaluated under cognitive, affective, behavioral, communicative, and institutional dimensions. The findings revealed that the attitudes of students with hearing impairment toward their peers with special needs did not display a one-dimensional or fixed structure. While communication barriers, lack of sign language knowledge, behavioral uncertainty, fear of being harmed, and social distance were prominent among students, positive tendencies such as compassion, helping, protection, and peer support were also observed. The tendency of some students to position their peers with intellectual disability as individuals who "do not understand" or "cannot do" indicates the potential emergence of an implicit hierarchical perception among students with special needs. Conversely, peer leadership, teacher guidance, auxiliary staff mediation, and shared social activities were found to enhance social acceptance. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that inclusive education is not limited to the mere presence of diverse students in the same physical school environment; rather, it necessitates structured social settings where students can get to know one another, interact safely, and build shared experiences. In this context, cross-disability awareness activities, basic shared communication practices, peer mentoring, supervised play activities, and supportive training programs involving all school personnel are considered vital for strengthening social acceptance.trinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessİşitme YetersizliğiKapsayıcı EğitimÖzel Gereksinimli AkranlarSosyal KabulHearing Impairmentİnclusive EducationPeers With Special NeedsSocial Acceptanceİşitme engelli öğrencilerin özel gereksinimli akranlarına yönelik tutumlarının incelenmesiAn investigation of hearing impaired students attitudes towards their peers with special needsMaster Thesis
