Ekonomik, kültürel ve sosyal faaliyetlerin, üretim ve tüketimin merkezi olan kent; dolayısıyla nüfusun, kirliliğin, ekolojik deformasyonun ve toplumsal etkileşimin en fazla olduğu bir kaos ortamı olarak ele alınabilir. Bu karmaşanın en azından artmadan sürdürülebilirliğinin devam ettirilebilmesi sorunu; ulusal, bölgesel, yerel düzeyde çözüm odaklı stratejilerin geliştirilmesi zorunluluğu özellikle 1900’lü yıllardan beri uluslararası gündemi meşgul etmektedir. Kentlerde sürdürülebilir çevresel, kültürel ve sosyal gelişim ve hizmetlerin ekoloji ve toplumu tehdit etmediği bir gelişme için; yerel düzeyde toplumla en yakın temas içerisinde olan, toplum yönetimi ve kentsel sürdürülebilirlik konularının birleşme noktasındaki sosyal sürdürülebilirliğin hayata geçirilmesinde belediyelerin, kentsel gelişim ve sosyal politikalarının bu yönde geliştirilmesi ve yerel katılımın sağlanması önem taşımaktadır. Çalışmada sürdürülebilir kentleşmenin sosyal boyutu açısından sosyal belediyeciliğin önemi, faaliyet alanları ve Konya Büyükşehir Belediyesi içerisinde sosyal belediyecilik uygulamalarıyla sosyal sürdürülebilirliği destekleyici faaliyetleri ele alınmıştır.Considering the development of the concepts of sustainability and sustainable development and urban development; It is seen that providing environmental and social sustainable development in cities constitutes the starting point for the implementation of the concept of sustainability. The city is the center of economic, cultural and social activities, production and consumption for his reason, the population, pollution, ecological deformation and social interaction can be considered as a chaos environment. Sustainable environmental, cultural and social development and services in cities are not threatened by ecology and society; It is important that municipalities, urban development and social policies at the juncture of community management and urban sustainability issues, which are in close contact with the community at the local level, are developed in this direction and local participation is ensured.
