Öğe Analysis of cyberbullying sensitivity levels of high school students and their perceived social support levels(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2015) Akturk, Ahmet OguzPurpose - The purpose of this paper is to determine the cyberbullying sensitivity levels of high school students and their perceived social supports levels, and analyze the variables that predict cyberbullying sensitivity. In addition, whether cyberbullying sensitivity levels and social support levels differed according to gender was also investigated. While current communication technologies such as mobile phones, the Internet and social network sites provide new opportunities for learning and interaction, they may also pose a threat to personal security. The rapid increase in access to information and communication technologies by young people can also cause those technologies to be used for bullying their peers - called cyberbullying. Design/methodology/approach - In this study, the cyberbullying sensitivity levels of high school students and their perceived social support levels were determined, and some variables (perceived social support, gender and academic success) which predicted sensitivity related to cyberbullying were analyzed. A total of 433 students studying in a large public high school located at the middle part of Turkey voluntarily participated in this study. Findings - The findings of this research show that both the cyberbullying sensitivities of the students and their levels of the perceived social support were high and that both the cyberbullying sensitivities of the female students and their perceived social support levels were higher than the ones of the male students. Based on the result of stepwise regression analysis that investigate the predicting factors related to cyberbullying sensitivities of the students, perceived social support was found to be the strongest predicting factor. Originality/value - It can be seen that most young people have little information about cyberbullying and they lack information about basic e-security applications. Accordingly, most young people are victims or potential victims of cyberbullying. In conclusion, to remove victimhood due to cyberbullying or reduce it to a minimum from an optimistic point of view, not only risky processes but also how the environment should protect young people from developing incompatible behaviors and how to increase their sensitivity should be taken into consideration. It may be said that the findings that we obtained in our research may contribute to relevant studies from the point of developing preventive programs against cyberbullying.Öğe Metaphors of High School Students about the Concept of Interactive Whiteboard(Necmettin Erbakan Univ, 2015) Akturk, Ahmet Oguz; Mihci, Sinem; Celik, IsmailThe primary aim of this phenomenographic study is to discover the perceptions of high school students regarding the concept of Interactive Whiteboard through metaphors. Phenomenography, which is a qualitative research method, was used in the study. The research group of the study consisted of a total of 162 students studying at the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades of the information technologies department of an Anatolian high school of commerce. In order to collect the research data, each student in the research group was asked to complete the gaps in the sentence Interactive Whiteboard is like.; because. Content analysis techniques were employed for the analysis of the data in order to group the metaphors created by the students based on their common features. As the result of the analysis of the collected data, it was found out that the participants created 41valid metaphors. These metaphors were classified under 6 conceptual categories in terms of their characteristics. In conclusion, it was determined that the students had highly positive perceptions about Interactive Whiteboard. However, it was observed that some of the students perceived Interactive Whiteboard as an unnecessary device.Öğe Prediction of Problematic Internet Usage of University Students by Their Attachment Styles(Necmettin Erbakan Univ, 2020) Akturk, Ahmet OguzThe purpose of this study is to predict university students' problematic Internet use levels by their attachment styles. The participants of the study are the university students at a large university in Turkey. While the Problematic Internet Usage Scale is used to measure university students' problematic Internet usage levels, the Relationship Scales Questionnaire is used to determine their attachment styles. The Problematic Internet Usage Scale has the following sub-dimensions: excessive usage, social benefit/social comfort and negative consequences of the Internet. The sub-dimensions of the Relationship Scales Questionnaire involve secure, fearful, preoccupied and dismissing. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted to analyze the data obtained from the study. Also, correlation and stepwise regression analysis technique are used to investigate the relationship between the problematic Internet usage and the sub-dimensions of the attachment styles. The findings show that the participants have a medium-level of problematic Internet usage. The male university students are more inclined to exhibit problematic Internet usage behaviors than the female students. In addition, the preoccupied, secure and dismissing attachment styles are found to be the significant predictors of problematic Internet usage.Öğe Thirty-five years of the Journal of Computer Assisted Learning: A bibliometric overview(Wiley, 2022) Akturk, Ahmet OguzBackground Journal of Computer Assisted Learning (JCAL), which started its publication life in 1985, is a leading international journal in the field of computer and instructional technologies and celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2020. Objectives This study aims to provide a bibliometric overview of leading publication and citation trends of JCAL over the past 35 years. In order to achive the aim of the study, metadata of all the articles (N = 1305) published in the journal in this process were obtained from the Scopus database. Methods The study includes JCALs bibliometric analyses such as the total number of articles and citations, h-index, citations per paper, citations per year, citation thresholds, average number of citations per year and annual citation counts between 1985 and 2020. In addition, the study presents visual maps based on citation, co-citation, bibliographic coupling, co-authorship and co-occurrence of author keywords with a bibliometric mapping analysis performed with VOSviewer software. Results and Conclusions The results indicate that JCAL has become one of the leading journals over time in the field of computer and instructional technologies, as indicated by citation counts of articles published in JCAL, receiving citations from publications in esteemed journals, and publishing international rigorous work. Additionally, researchers who have published in JCAL in recent years have directed their attention to subjects such as learning analytics, massive open online courses (MOOCs), multimedia learning, game-based learning, blended learning, online learning, mobile learning and virtual reality. Implications Further investigation of the scientific collaboration of authors who conduct research in different disciplines related to education, topics and education levels may yield more diverse perspectives.
