Öğe Comparative analysis of shopping malls with different plans by using space syntax method(Elsevier, 2023) Arslan, H. Derya; Ergener, HilalSpatial organization is very important for shopping malls having complex functional buildings. Spatial organizational differences in shopping malls affect customer' easy access to stores and their buying behavior. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the spatial organization of shopping malls having different plan schemes. In line with the determined purpose, connectivity, visual integration and visual step depth analyzes were conducted using the Space Syntax method of the ground floors of three different plan typed (Dumbbell, Cluster and Branch) shopping malls selected from Turkey via DepthmapX software. In the direction of the data obtained, Dumbbell and Cluster plan types were evaluated successfully in terms of spatial organization, respectively. In the Branch plan type, it has been determined that there are insufficient spaces in terms of connectivity and integration. In the evaluation made according to the program analysis results and design criteria, it has been determined that the Dumbbell plan type, one of the shopping center schemes, gives positive results in terms of spatial organization and it is rec-ommended to be used in designs.(c) 2022 THE AUTHORS. DeryaThe study aims at evaluating the history of the Konya Train Station and discussing the last condition of this historical building. This study explores the significance and revaluation of station with its campus buildings in the history.Öğe Investigation of Architect and Non-Architect Participants' Perceptual Evaluations on Different Period Mosque Facades(Selcuk Univ, 2018) Arslan, H. Derya; Yildirim, Kemal; Gulseker, EsinIn architecture, perception based studies about building facades have become more popular. In recent studies, mostly residential buildings and business center type of buildings had been selected as target buildings. The lack of study of the perception of the facades of religious structures has created the basic motivation for this work. In the current study, the facade features of (Seljuk period, Ottoman period and Republic period) some important mosques from different periods were evaluated according to the adjective pairs of complexity, preference and impressiveness variables. Also, whether or not the general views of the mosques represent Islamic religion and their level of arousing curiosity were questioned. For this purpose, in the study, a total of 16 mosques were used. The results obtained from the participants as architect and non-architect are given. It is seen that the participant architects show a statistically more negative approach compared to those who are non-architects in the perceptual evaluations of the facades of the mosques for complexity variable. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant difference between the participants' evaluations of preference and impressiveness variables (at p <0.05 level).Öğe Investigation of Architect and Non-Architect Participants' Perceptual Evaluations on Different Period Mosque Facades(Selcuk Univ, 2018) Arslan, H. Derya; Yildram, KemalThe study aims to evaluate 16 stadiums having different facade features in a comparative manner from a perceptual point of view. Therefore, the 16 stadiums constructed between 2011 and 2021 in Turkey were classified according to their facade and roof, shell forms and shell colors. The semantic differentiation scale consisting of adjective pairs of likability, complexity, impressiveness, familiarity and environmental compatibility that were found valid and reliable in previous studies was used to evaluate the selected stadiums. The means and standard deviations values were determined. Thereafter, the One-Way Analysis of Variance method was used in order to examine the impact of variables like gender and profession. The study concluded that stadiums with a circular shape and a neutral color whose covers are separete from facade, are more popular and evaluated more positively. Besides, women have a more negative approach than men and architects have a more positive approach than lay-persons (not-architect).(c) 2022 THE AUTHORS. Derya; Yildirim, KemalPurpose This study aimed to make a comparative evaluation of the differences between the original facade (original) and the modified facade of the traditional Turkish Houses (collected from Afyonkarahisar city) based on perception. Design/Methodology/Approach In line with this purpose, digital images of eight sets of original and modified street silhouettes with gray color scales have been produced on the computer. Two different groups consisting of 80 people (architect and non-architect group) have evaluated the prepared images by the semantic differentiation scale consisting of the adjective pairs. The main hypothesis of the study is The original facade would be more preferred than the modified facade. Also, gender, architect and non architect group comparisons were made in the evaluations, too. Findings The results have shown that the participants liked the original traditional Turkish House facade more. The tidy/untidy and proportional/non-proportional adjective pairs have had the biggest difference in this evaluation. In another result, male participants have evaluated the traditional Turkish House facade views liked more for all dependent variables except for familiar / unfamiliar and qualified / unqualified adjective pairs compared to female participants. In addition, non architects have liked more than architects the facade views of traditional Turkish Houses for adjective pairs that are beautiful / ugly, not impressive / unimpressive and interesting / uninteresting. On the other hand the architects have liked more than non-architects the facade view of traditional Turkish Houses for the proportional / non-proportional adjective pair. Research Limitations/Implications This study has been conducted only for Turkish Houses collected from Afyonkarahisar city. In addition, only architects and non-architects group attended for evaluation of the surveys. Social/Practical Implications According to the most important finding obtained from the study, the fact that the original state is observed in the restoration of traditional Turkish Houses has caused people liked it more. Similarly, it has been observed that the organization of windows, solid-void relationship ratio, repetitions, horizontal and vertical structural elements (beams etc.) in the Turkish house facade characteristic will have a positive effect on perception. Originality/Value With this study, for the first time in the literature, the evaluation of holistic (comprehensive) street silhouettes was made based on a single facade layout.Öğe Perceptual Evaluation of Traditional Turkish House Facade(Konya Technical Univ, Fac Architecture & Design, 2021) Arslan, H. Hakan; Arslan, H. DeryaIn this study, structural parameters have been mentioned on reinforced concrete members such as floor and shear wall produced with/without balls, also making some explanation on feasibility of the research and findings discussed in comparative way. Results obtained from experimental studies shows that plastic balls used in reinforced concrete with the suitable position, do not cause to decrease on strength and rigidity but some improvement on thermal and acoustic features has been observed.
