Because of insufficient nursesworking in nursing homes, healthcare assistants usually care for the older persons. This studyassessed the attitudes of healthcare assistants toward the older persons and ageism.Materials and Method: This descriptive study assessed the attitudes of 108 healthcareassistants working in a public nursing home using Kogan’s Attitudes Toward Older People(KAOP) scale and Ageism Attitude Scale (AAS).Results: The mean age of the 108 healthcare assistants was 40.17.7 years. These individualsare 58.3% male, 85% are married and 62% are primary school graduates. The mean durationof employment of the participants at the nursing home was 80.156.9 months, and 91.7% hadcaregiving certificates. Participants had positive attitudes based on their total KAOP and AASscores and sub-dimension AAS scores. KAOP scores varied according to sex and living withan older persons from the family, whereas AAS scores varied according to sex, income status, living with an older persons from the family, considering training for senior care a necessity, and educational background. According to hierarchical regression analysis for determining thevariability of the total AAS score, Model 1 (sociodemographic variables) predicted 25.6% andModel 2 (sociodemographic, caregiving certificate, duration of employment) predicted 28.4%of the AAS scores. Conclusion: Attitudes of healthcare assistants toward the older persons and ageism arepositive. Educational background, gender, and income level are predictive variables for ageism.Öğe Development of the Turkish version of the oral health assessment tool: Methodological study(Wiley, 2023) Genc, Fatma Zehra; Cingil, Dilek; Hisar, FilizAim: This research aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Oral Health Assessment Tool for the Elderly Turkish form. Methods: A total of 262 elderly individuals > 65 years of age were included in the study. These individuals were selected from community-dwelling elderly and nursing home residents in the Konya province of Turkey. A data form containing sociodemographic information and oral health behavior was used to collect the data. In addition, the Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index and the Oral Health Assessment Tool for the Elderly were used. To create the Turkish version of the tool, the form was translated and back-translated for content validity. Expert opinion was obtained for criterion validity. Last, confirmatory factor analysis and exploratory factor analysis were performed to evaluate construct validity. Test-retest reliability, interobserver reliability, and Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficients were calculated. Results: The Tool Turkish form consisted of 10 items and two factors. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient was 0.86. The total variance explained by the items was 60.19%, and the test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.95. The content validity index was 0.90, and Kendall's coefficient of concordance was 0.97. The correlation coefficient between the scales is 0.719. The mean Oral Health Assessment Tool for the Elderly score obtained by the participants was 5.4 +/- 4.32 (median 5, min-max: 0-17). Conclusion: The Turkish version of the tool is a valid and reliable tool to assess oral health in community-dwelling elderly individuals and those living in nursing homes.Öğe The effect of disability empathy activity on the attitude of nursing students towards disabled people: a pilot study(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2017) Geckil, Emine; Kaleci, Elanur; Cingil, Dilek; Hisar, FilizBackground: Nurses care for disabled people in society. Objectives: The aim of this experimental study was to investigate the effect of disability empathy activities on strengthening the positive attitudes of nursing students towards disabled people.Design: An experimental study. Pretest-Posttest control group arrangement was used. Methods: This research has been conducted with 116 nursing students (53 experimental and 63 control). The data were collected with Attitudes Towards Disabled Persons Scale (ATDP).Results: Before the experiment, there was no significant difference between ATDP scores of experimental and control groups (p>0.05). After the experiment, second ATDP scores of experimental group (66.8114.27) were found to be significantly higher than the scores of control group (59.02 +/- 11.71) (p=0.002). After six months, third ATDP scores of experimental group (63.58 +/- 13.46) were also found to be higher than the scores of control group (58.43 +/- 11.03) (p=0.025).Conclusions: Empathy activities applied to understand disabled people affected the attitudes of student nurses towards disabled people positively.Öğe Effect of education and counseling on anthropometric measures and healthy Lifestyle behavior among overweight and obese women(Oxford Univ Press, 2020) Cingil, Dilek; Goger, SedaBackground: It is extremely important to develop and maintain healthy lifestyle behaviors, particularly in overweight and obese women. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of education and counseling on healthy lifestyle behaviors among overweight and obese women who attend a sports center. Methods: This pretest-posttest interventional study included a total of 60 women aged 18-49 years [intervention (n = 30) and control (n = 30)]. The data were collected using an introductory information form, the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviours Scale II, and an anthropometric measurements follow-up form. The participants in the intervention group were provided with education and counseling. The control group was administered the standard procedure at the sports center. Results: In the pretest comparison of the intervention and control groups, values of health responsibility, interpersonal relations, and spiritual development were greater in the control group than in the intervention group, and the difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05). In the posttest comparison, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of waist/hip ratio, BMI, interpersonal relations, and spiritual development (p > 0.05). It was found in multiple regression analysis: the BMI posttest (beta= -0.250, p = 0.028) predict negatively 25% of the HLBS II posttest total score and being in the intervention group (beta = 0.486, p < 0.001) predict positively 49% of (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Training and counseling based on the health promotion model are effective in developing healthy lifestyle behaviors. Women aged 18-49 years should be more frequently monitored in terms of obesity.Öğe Evaluation Of Nursing Functions In Home Health Services: A Retrospective Study(Marmara Univ, Inst Health Sciences, 2022) Sener, Senay; Cingil, Dilek; Goger, SedaObjective: This study aimed to evaluate the nursing functions of home health services. Methods: The study was planned retrospectively and descriptively in a state hospital's Home Health Care Unit. The study sample consists of all files of patients who received home health services between 16.01.2019 and 16-07.2019. Data Registration Form and Nursing Functions Evaluation Form were used in collecting the data. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test to test compliance with normal distribution in data analysis, descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, t-test and Mann Whitney U test in independent groups of 2, One-way ANOVA (Post-hoc Tamhane's T2 test if the difference between groups was significant) and Kruskal-Wallis test were used in groups of 3. Results: As a result of the data analysis, it was determined that there is a statistically significant difference between the independent, semidependent, and dependent function scores applied by nurses in patients with diabetes, recent operations, and heart failure(p<0.05). Also, a statistically significant difference was found in the nursing function scores applied in individuals who need palliative care and dieticians, use medical devices or assistive devices, and are fed enterally by tube(p<0.05).Asignificant positive relationship was found between the mean score of independent nursing functions and the frequency of home visits. (rs=0.142, p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result of this study, it was determined that semi-dependent functions are used more for nursing practices. It is thought that the interventions implemented by nurses will be more visible with the development of nursing registration systems inhome health services.Öğe Evaluation of the relationship among foot wound risk, foot self-care behaviors, and illness acceptance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2020) Sahin, Selma; Cingil, DilekAims: Due to insufficient data in primary care, this study was designed to assess the influence of patient's foot self-care behaviors and illness acceptance on the risk of developing diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) in adults diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods: This is a descriptive study with a clinical assessment element. Data were collected using a number of validated psychometric questionnaires that assess the participant's foot self care behavior, acceptance of Illness, symptoms and neuropathy. The study included 246 patients diagnosed with type 2 DM attending a designated family health center in Konya, Turkey. Results: In the present study, there was a significant difference between DFSBS scores and gender and whether the patients resided in urban or rural areas (p < 0.05). A significant difference between AIS score and gender, educational status, social security, place of residence, and economic status of the participants was observed (p < 0.05). According to the results of regression analysis, gender, frequency of physician control visit (monthly), and foot care training predicted the DFSBS score, whereas gender, education, economic status, presence of other non-infectious diseases, hospitalization in the previous year, and OTNS results predicted the AIS score. Furthermore, the AIS and OTNS scores predicted the MNSI-Q score. Conclusions: In the family health centers, individuals who are at risk must be initially identified and efforts should be made to prevent complications and increase illness acceptance.
