Öğe Assessment of Functional Status and Quality of Life in Children with Spina Bifida(Baycinar Medical Publ-Baycinar Tibbi Yayincilik, 2014) Sahin, Nilay; Albayrak, Ilknur; Durmus, Bekir; Gungor, Tayfun; Turac Cingoz, HavvaObjective: The aim of this study was to determine functional status and QoL of children with spina bifida (SB) by using the Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFIM) and the Child Health Questionnaire PF-50 (CHQPF-50) and to compare the functional status data of pediatric SB patients with those of healthy children. Material and Methods: Forty children with SB and 40 healthy children aged between 36 and 143 months were enrolled in the study. Both pediatric SB patients and healthy children were divided into three age groups: Group 1: 36-71 months, Group 2: 72-107 months, and Group 3: 108-143 months. The WeeFIM and CHQPF-50 were completed for children with SB, whereas the WeeFIM was completed only for healthy children. Results: In both assessments, the total score and subscale scores were lower than normal values in children with SB. However, improvement was found in self-care; communication; social, emotional, and mental status; and family factors with increasing age. On the other hand, there was no improvement in physical score, transfer, mobility, and sphincter control with increasing age. Functional status of children with SB was significantly lower compared to healthy children. Conclusion: There was progress in self-care, communication, family factors, and social, emotional and mental status in children with SB with increasing age.Öğe Miscible Two Diseases in Old Age: Hypopituitarism and Pseudogout(Modestum Ltd, 2016) Gulyer, Huseyin; Savut, Bulent; Sahin, Muhammed; Gungor, Tayfun; Kucuk, Adem; Kulaksizoglu, Mustafa; Kaya, AhmetCalcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease is a disease characterized by collecting of crystals in hyaline cartilage, fibrocartilage and soft tissues, related to many endocrine and metabolic conditions, and seen more commonly in old age. Hypopituitarism may occur in old age with fatigue, decrease in libido, weight loss and musculoskeletal symptoms as a major cause of the overall condition impairment. As one gets older, the signs of these two diseases may progress even without any significant disease. The natural process which comes with old age, and pseudogout and hypopituitarism can mask one to another clinically and the symptoms of three situation may be overlapping. This can lead to difficulty and delay in diagnosis. Our case was an elderly female patient diagnosed with hypopituitarism and pseudogout.Öğe Miscible Two Diseases in Old Age: Hypopituitarism and Pseudogout(Modestum Ltd, 2016) Gulyer, Huseyin; Savut, Bulent; Sahin, Muhammed; Gungor, Tayfun; Kucuk, Adem; Kulaksizoglu, Mustafa; Kaya, AhmetCalcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease is a disease characterized by collecting of crystals in hyaline cartilage, fibrocartilage and soft tissues, related to many endocrine and metabolic conditions, and seen more commonly in old age. Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are two new inflammatory markers used in the assessment of systemic inflammation. The aim here is to study NLR and PLR in patients with RA to investigate their relation with Disease Activity Score of 28 joints (DAS-28). MethodsThe study included 104 patients with RA and a control group of 51 age- and gender-matched healthy subjects. We divided the patients into two groups according to the DAS-28 score. Group 1 included patients with a score of lower than 2.6 by the DAS-28 (patients in remission) and Group 2 included patients with a score of 2.6 and higher (patients with active disease). ResultsNLR was 2.120.83 in the patient group and 1.58 +/- 0.57 in the control group. PLR was 136.50 +/- 53.52 in the patient group and 114.84 +/- 29.41 in the control group. There was a statistically significant difference in NLR and PLR between the patient and control groups (P0.0001 and P=0.001, respectively). Patients in Group 1 had an NLR of 1.84 +/- 0.61 and a PLR of 119.25 +/- 41.77. Patients in Group 2 had an NLR of 2.29 +/- 0.90 and a PLR of 147.28 +/- 56.96. There was a statistically significant difference in NLR and PLR between the two groups (P=0.003 and P=0.005 respectively). A correlation was observed between NLR and PLR by DAS-28 (r=0.345, P0.0001 and r=0.352, P0.0001, respectively). ConclusionsThe present study showed us that NLR and PLR were two new inflammatory markers which could be used to assess disease activity in patients with RA.
