Öğe Acute Deep Venous Thrombosis Associated with Acute Brucellosis: A Case Report(Aves, 2012) Kocak, Sedat; Dikmetas, Cesarettin; Dundar, Zerrin D.; Erdemir, Esma; Kesli, RecepBrucellosis continues to be one of the most widespread zoonoses worldwide. Human brucellosis is a multisystem disease that may present with a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations, but it may also be asymptomatic with only serological evidence of infection. In this paper, a case report is presented of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) developing after a diagnosis of acute brucellosis in a young slaughterhouse worker. A 26-year-old man was diagnosed with DVT which had presented with the complaints of weakness and fever and a one-week history of pain and swelling in the right leg. Ultrasound revealed that the right femoral and popliteal veins were occluded with thrombi. Brucella was diagnosed using Rose-Bengal, tube agglutination, the Brucellacapt test and an enzyme-linked immunoassay using anti-Brucella abortus IgM/G antibody detection at another institution. Although rare, some infectious agents may cause vascular pathologies. These conditions may be life-threatening. Thus, it should be kept in mind that vascular complications may occur during infectious disease and patients should be monitored. Additionally, patients presenting with symptoms of DVT or similar vascular pathologies should be assessed for infectious agents, particularly Brucella and Salmonella, as well as other risk factors.Öğe Comparison of the GenoType® MTBC Molecular Genetic Assay with culture methods in the diagnosis of tuberculosis(Termedia Publishing House Ltd, 2014) Kurtoglu, Muhammet Guzel; Ozdemir, Mehmet; Kesli, Recep; Baysal, BulentIntroduction: Clinical samples from 433 patients pre-diagnosed with tuberculosis in Konya, Turkey, were investigated prospectively to compare the GenoType (R) MTBC test (GenoType (R) MTBC) with conventional gold standard culture methods. Material and methods: Lowenstein Jensen (LJ) and Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tube (MGIT)-960 culture methods and GenoType (R) MTBC were performed together. Results: Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) detection rates were 16.2% by culture methods, 15.4% by GenoType (R) MTBC, and 6% by acid-fast bacilli microscopy. The LJ or MGIT-960 with GenoType (R) MTBC detected M. tuberculosis in 12 samples each that were negative according to the other culture method alone. Among 70 M. tuberculosis-positive samples, detection rates were 37% (26/70) by microscopy and 82.8% (58/70) by LJ and MGIT-960, but 95.7% (67/70) by GenoType (R) MTBC. Conclusions: GenoType (R) MTBC may be used as a beneficial adjunct test to culture methods for the detection of M. tuberculosis.Öğe Levels of Serum Soluble P-Selectin and E-Selectin in Psoriatic Patients(Korean Dermatological Assoc, 2014) Ataseven, Arzu; Ataseven, Huseyin; Ozturk, Perihan; Ozdemir, Mehmet; Kesli, Recep[Abstract Not Availabe]Öğe Pretreatment with carnosol in lung ischemia reperfusion-induced renal injury(Baycinar Medical Publ-Baycinar Tibbi Yayincilik, 2014) Apiliogullari, Burhan; Kesli, Recep; Esme, Hidir; Yuceaktas, Ali; Yoldas, BanuBackground: This experimental study aims to investigate the protective effects of carnosol on kidney injury induced by lung ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). Methods: Twenty-four New Zealand white rabbits were randomized into three groups. Group IR; lung I/R group (60 min ischemia-60 min reperfusion), group CIR; bolus injection of carnosol before lung I/R, and group S; sham group (pulmonary hilum was not clamped). Renal tissue myeloperoxidase (MPO) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) levels were evaluated. Results: Renal tissue MPO and ICAM-1 levels were significantly higher in the group IR compared to the group CIR and group S (p=0.021 and p=0.0001 respectively). No statistically significant difference in the parameters evaluated was detected between the group CIR and the group S. Conclusion: Our study result suggests that lung I/R injury causes increased renal tissue MPO and ICAM-1 levels, which are related to activated neutrophil sequestration and carnosol may play a protective role against this kidney injury.
