Öğe Investigation of Performance Based Academic Incentive Practice in Higher Education(Ani Publishing, 2020) Karabacak, Nermin; Kucuk, Mehmet; Korkmaz, IsaThe purpose of academicians' performances based on academicians' scientific research and production are to improve academicians' income and increase their motivation to do more research and publication. However, since this application is a new for the evaluation of academicians in higher education, the commissions of academicians' performance evaluation have some difficulties in the process of decision making. The aim of this research is to examine the academic incentive practice on the basis of the experience of academicians working in the academic incentive sub-upper commissions at the universities in the Black Sea region. The research was carried out in the case study model and in qualitative research design. Criteria sampling method was used in the research. In order to carry out the research, each institution was selected from the universities on the top, in middle and lower ranking among the Black Sea Region Universities according to the determined criteria. In the research, data were collected conducting semi-structured interviews. The members of these institutions working in the sub-upper academic incentive commissions were determined as the participants of the research. The results of the research reveal that there are conflicts in incentive commissions due to the criteria that are not clear in the regulation on incentive, academicians who apply for incentives act unethical behaviors towards the commission members, and there are different problems in the evaluation of the types of academic activities. For this reason, the research is important in terms of reflecting the issues to be considered in updating the incentive practice by revealing the problems arising from the incentive practice and faced by commissions.Öğe Investigation of Performance Based Academic Incentive Practice in Higher Education(Ani Publishing, 2020) Karabacak, Nermin; Kucuk, Mehmet; Korkmaz, IsaThe purpose of academicians' performances based on academicians' scientific research and production are to improve academicians' income and increase their motivation to do more research and publication. The changing values increase the in-service training needs of the teachers. Although it is aimed to gain prospective teachers the values of the teaching profession in the pre-service period, it is seen that the target is not sufficiently achieved. The present research aims to investigate administrators' opinions regarding the values that should be gained among classroom teachers through in-service training. Research Methods: This study was designed in a qualitative, case study pattern. The study group was 24 school administrators working in primary schools. The participants were determined using a criterion sampling method. The data were collected by a semi-structured grid form developed by the researchers. Findings: The values to be gained during in-service training among classroom teachers were (i) personal values: openness to innovation, diligence, patience, awareness, honesty, politeness, empathy, consistency and reliability, (ii) professional values: communication, leadership, creativity, collaboration, solidarity and vision, (iii) universal values: love, justice, tolerance and humanism and (iv) cultural values: patriotism, self-devotion and work selflessly. Methods Three thousand eight-hundred fifty-eight native kidney biopsy records were assessed in the Turkish Society of Nephrology Primary Glomerulopathy Working Group (TSN-GOLD) Registry. Secondary disease and transplant biopsies were not recorded in the registry. These records were divided into four periods, before 2009, 2009 to 2013, 2013-2017, and 2017-current. Results A total of 3858 patients (43.6% female, 6.8% elderly) were examined. Nephrotic syndrome was the most common biopsy indication in all periods (58.6%, 53%, 44.1%, 51.6%, respectively). In the whole cohort, IgA nephropathy (IgAN) (25.7%) was the most common PGN with male predominance (62.7%), and IgAN frequency steadily increased through the periods (x 2 = 198, p < 0.001). MGN was the most common nephropathy in the elderly (> 65 years), and there was no trend in this age group. An increasing trend was seen in the frequency of overweight patients (x 2 = 37, p < 0.0001). Although the biopsy rate performed with interventional radiology gradually increased, the mean glomeruli count in the samples did not change over the periods. Conclusions In Turkey, IgAN is the most common primary glomerulonephritis, and the frequency of this is increasing.
