In our study, we aimed to determine the knowledge and behaviors about skin care and moisturizers in patients attending dermatology outpatient clinics. Materials and Methods: Patients, who attended our dermatology outpatient clinic for any reason between March 2013 and May 2013, were requested to fill out a questionnaire containing questions about their knowledge of skin care products and moisturizers and how to use them, using behaviors, where they get knowledge about them, what are the things they consider when choosing them, whom they ask for advice for these products, where they buy these products, and what are the things they consider when buying them. Results: The study involved 984 patients. 608 (61.8%) were female, 376 (38.2%) were male. 474 (48.2%) patients defined skin care as cleaning, (34.2%) 337 patients as lack of skin disease. 303 (30.8%) patients knew one skin care product, 213 (21.6%) - two skin care products, 284 (28.9%) - more products, and 184 (18.7%) patients had no idea. 528 (53.7%) patients were using skin products, 200 of them were using regularly and 328 were using sometimes. 456 (46.3%) patients were not using any skin care product. 648 (65.9%) subjects stated that they get information from dermatologists, 154 (15.7%) - via internet, 106 (10.8%) - via advertisements, 37 (3.8%) - from neighbors, and 39 (4%) subjects stated that they get information from pharmacy when choosing skin care products. 300 (30.5%) patients were regularly using moisturizers, 340 (34.6%) patients were using sometimes, 344 (35%) were not using moisturizers. Conclusion: Our patients did not have the behavior of using skin care products regularly. Our society needs to be informed about regular skin care, and choosing the right moisturizers, buying these products from appropriate places as well as using these products correctly.Öğe Benign cephalic histiocytosis(Medknow Publications & Media Pvt Ltd, 2013) Daye, Munise; Dogan, Seda; Mevlitoglu, Inci; Toy, Hatice[Abstract Not Availabe]Öğe Bullous disorders in Konya: A study of 93 cases(Deri Zuhrevi Hastaliklar Dernegi, 2013) Daye, Munise; Mevlitoglu, Inci; Esener, SarenurBackground and Design: Bullous diseases are a group of disorders caused by specific antibodies against tissue adhesion molecules in the skin and mucosa or by genetic inheritance. There are limited detailed epidemiological studies about bullous disorders in Turkey. In this study, we evaluated the demographic, clinical and immunopathological findings as well as course of the disease and follow-up properties in patients with bullous disorders in the 'Province of Konya. Materials and Methods: Ninety-three patients, who were followed up between 2006 and 2012, were included in our study: Since most of the patients were in pemphigus and bullous pemphigoid groups, we investigated data on those patients in more detail. Results: 53.8% of patients were female and 46.2% were male. The mean age was 52.9. 37.6% of patients had pemphigus vulgaris, - 34.4% bullous pemphigoid, - 15%hereditary epidermolysis bullosa, - 4.3% dermatitis herpetiformis, - 4.3% pemphigus foliaceus, - 2.2% pemphigus vegetans, - 1.1% Hailey-Hailey disease, and 1.1% of patients had cicatricial pemphigoid. The mean age of onset of pemhigus vulgaris was 45.9 years. Pemhigus vulgaris, which was most frequently observed in females, started at oral mucosa and the time of diagnosis was longer than in patients in the other geographic regions. The mean age of onset of bullous pemphigoid was 70 years and it was mostly observed in females. In 12.5 of cases, the initial manifestations occured the oral mucosa. None of the patients had a concomitant autoimmune disorder. Twenty-five cases were treated with systemic corticosteroids, 41 cases with systemic corticosteroids and adjuvant drugs; 11 patients received only adjuvant therapy, and 16 patients were administered only local steroids. Conclusion: We report the demographical, clinical and immunopathological, findings as well as course of the disease and follow-up properties in patients with bullous disorders in the Province of Konya.Öğe Development of Scabies During Treatment for Mycosis Fungoides: Dermatoscopic Diagnosis(Galenos Yayincilik, 2012) Aykol, Caner; Mevlitoglu, Inci; Tol, Huseyin; Tavli, Yeliz UcarScabies is a cutaneous infestation caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis and characterized by severe and generalized pruritus. A clinical diagnosis can be made when a burrow is detected at a typical predilection site and the lesion is severely itching. Scabies which occurs in the elderly and also in patients who are immunosuppressed, the lesions are very variable and clinical diagnosis may be difficult. In such cases, dermatoscopy is a simple and rapid diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of scabies with high sensitivity and specificity. Here, a 61-year-old woman who was diagnosed as scabies with dermatoscopic findings and already had mycosis fungoides is reported.Öğe The effect of isotretinoin therapy on oxidative damage in rats(Wiley, 2020) Daye, Munise; Belviranli, Muaz; Okudan, Nilsel; Mevlitoglu, Inci; Oz, MehmetIsotretinoin is prescribed in many dermatologic disorders, but mostly in acne. There is limited research about oxidative stress induced by isotretinoin and its effects on the liver tissue, muscle tissue, and blood. In this study, oxidative damage of isotretinoin on the liver, muscles, and blood in rats at the therapeutic dosage for humans, is evaluated. Thirty, 2-months-old Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into four groups. Isotretinoin was administered at the human equivalent low dose of 7.5 mg/kg by gavage. Blood, liver, and skeletal muscle samples were taken from the animals under anesthesia. Oxidative stress and antioxidant defense markers such as Malondialdehyde (MDA), Protein carbonyl (PC), 8-OHDG (8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine), SOD (Superoxide dismutase), GSH(Glutathione), GPX (glutathione peroxidase), NO (Nitric Oxide) levels, Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and creatine kinase (CK) levels were measured. There were significant differences between the ALT values of the control group and the third month of isotretinoin treatment group. Oxidative stress markers such as 8-OHDG, PC, GSH, GPX, and NO values significantly differed in month 3. SOD was significantly lower in the treatment groups compared to the control group. Our study supports that the levels of oxidative markers are increasing with the isotretinoin treatment so this may flare acne. GPX levels increased at the muscle tissue level, and may be responsible for the myopathy that is seen in acne patients. Addition of antioxidants to isotretinoin treatment may be beneficial in reducing oxidative damage.Öğe Hair Follicle Nevus: A Case Report(Galenos Yayincilik, 2014) Mevlitoglu, Inci; Daye, Munise; Unal, Mehmet; Toy, HaticeHair follicle nevus (HFN) is a rare hamartoma showing follicular differentiation. Hamartomas are benign tumoral formations caused by overproduction of normal tissues and cells. HFN was first introduced by Gans et al in 1928. There are a few reports in literature on HFN appearing as multiple lesions, which is often observed as a single papule or nodule. We are hereby present our patient having complaints beginning in early childhood as his lesions might be confused with other dermatoses located on face area. As far as we know, our patient is the first HFN case with bilateral, multiple, perioral, perinasal, periorbital and genital involvements.Öğe Lipoid proteinosis (Urbach-Wiethe disease): A case report(Turkish Soc Dermatology Venerology, 2014) Daye, Munise; Dogan, Seda; Mevlitoglu, Inci; Esener, Sarenur; Toy, HaticeLipoid proteinosis, which is known as Urbach-Wiethe disease, was first described in 1929 as lipoidosis cutis et mucosae by Urbach and Wiethe. It is a rare autosomal recessive inherited genodermatosis. There are PAS-positive hyaline material deposits in the skin, mucosa and visceral organs. A 23-year-old man, who was suffering from swelling of the lower lip and a fissure on the inner side of the lip, presented to our outpatient clinic. On dermatological examination, there were lower lip edema and infiltration, as well as macroglossia. There were bilateral yellowish papules along his eyelashes. For his ocular findings; it was learned that he had been treated for trichiasis at his childhood. There were multiple atrophic scars on his face, elbows, axilla, knees, and the skin overlying his spinous processes. He had no hoarseness. There was no consanguinity between his mother and father. Physical examination was normal. Three punch biopsies were carried out from his tongue, lips and elbow with the preliminary diagnoses of lipoid proteinosis, Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome, focal epithelial hyperplasia, amyloidosis, granulomatous cheihtis, atrofoderma, and anetoderma. Deposition of hyaline PAS-positive materials was observed on his histopathological examination. According to the clinical and histopathological findings, the patient was diagnosed as having lipoid proteinosis. Otorhinolaryngologists, ophthalmologists, dermatologists, and neurologists should keep this rare condition in mind in the differential diagnosis.Öğe Retrospective evaluation of childhood alopecia areata cases(Turkish Soc Dermatology Venerology, 2013) Daye, Munise; Dogan, Seda; Balevi, Sukru; Mevlitoglu, InciBackground and Design: Approximately 20% of alopecia areata (AA) cases are children. There is limited information about childhood AA. We aimed to examine demographic features, treatments and prognosis of children with AA followed in our clinic. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the records of 110 AA patients 16 years of age or older. Data on age, gender, age at disease onset, duration of the disease, types of AA and onset area, nail involvement, accompanying systemic and dermatological diseases, laboratory tests, treatments and the prognosis, and follow-up period were evaluated. Results: 46.4% of subjects were female and 53.6% were male. The mean age was 10.35 years. The age at disease onset was 8.65 years. Primary onset areas of AA were: scalp in 83.6% of patients, - eyebrows - in 5.4%, - body hair - in 5.4%, - eyelashes - in 2.7%, and eyebrows and eyelashes in 2.7% of patients. Types of the disease were: AA in 73.4% cases, - alopecia totalis -in 19%, - alopecia universalis - in 5.4%, and ophiaisis in 1.8% of subjects. Nail involvement and nevus flammeus were observed in 36.3% and 27% of subjects, respectively. The mean disease duration was 17.02 months. The accompanying dermatoses were: vitiligo in 2.7% of cases and atopic dermatitis in 6.3% of cases. The accompanying systemic diseases were: autoimmune thyroiditis and Down syndrome in in 1.8% and 2.7% of patients, respectively. Thyroid autoantibodies were found to be high in 0.9% of subjects. We have treated 24.5%of patients with topical corticosteroid lotion, - 30.9%- with anthralin, - 0.9%- with 2% minoxidil lotion, - 0.9%- with calcipotriol lotion, - 1.8%- with topical calcineurin inhibitors, and 10% of cases with intralesional corticosteroids. We have treated 15.4% of subjects, who were resistant to topical treatment, with systemic corticosteroids and PUVA therapy. 14.5% of patients received different combinations of topical treatments. Remission was observed in 34.5% of cases. The mean remission duration was 12.2 months. On average, two relapses occurred in 26.3% of subjects. Conclusion: We assume that our results will contribute to epidemiologic data on childhood AA in our country.Öğe Skin Findings in Cystic Fibrosis Cases(Aves, 2018) Daye, Munise; Pekcan, Sevgi; Mevlitoglu, InciBACKGROUND/AIMS Clinical trials investigating skin findings of cystic fibrosis are limited. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the dermatological findings of patients with cystic fibrosis. MATERIAL and METHODS Twenty-six patients diagnosed with cystic fibrosis by the Department of Pediatric Chest Diseases were included in the study. In the pediatric chest diseases outpatient clinic, full blood, vitamin D, vitamin E, albumin, and IgE tests were recorded. In addition to the routine dermatological examination required from the pediatric chest diseases polyclinic, a diagnosis of aquagenic wrinkling was made. The cases were contacted with water at at 39 degrees-40 degrees C in 27 degrees C room temperature conditions, and the water-related wrinkle was assessed after 3 and 5 min of contact. RESULTS There were 12 male and 14 female cases. The average age of the patients was 78.80 (8-192) months, and the mean disease duration was 52.53 (2-180) months. In the dermatological examination of the cases, xerosis cutis (18 cases, 69.2%) was most frequently found. Aquagenic palmar wrinkles were observed in 20 (76.9%) cases, and palmar wrinkles were >30% at 5 min. In 5 (25%) cases, delta F508 mutation was present. In 7 (26.9%) cases, pili annulati was observed by light microcopy. CONCLUSION The most common skin finding in cystic fibrosis cases is xerosis. The percentage of aquagenic wrinkling is 76.9%. To our knowledge, the association of cystic fibrosis with pili annulation is a previously unreported finding and was reported for the first time in our study.Öğe TERRA FIRMA FORME DISEASE(Wiley, 2012) Tavli, Yeliz Ucar; Mevlitoglu, Inci; Toy, Hatice; Unal, Mehmet[Abstract Not Availabe]Öğe What is your diagnosis 6?(Deri Zuhrevi Hastaliklar Dernegi, 2015) Daye, Munise; Unal, Mehmet; Mevlitoglu, Inci; Toy, Hatice[Abstract Not Availabe]
