Öğe Matching functions of supply chain management with smart and sustainable Tools: A novel hybrid BWM-QFD based method(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2021) Gunduz, Mehmet Akif; Demir, Sercan; Paksoy, TuranIn recent years, there is a noticeable increase in interest in supply chain smartness and sustainability since a growing number of companies are adopting smart technologies and sustainable practices in the functions of supply chain management. Therefore, scholars and practitioners seek to make sense of how this phenomenon can be addressed concerning companies' maturity level of supply chain smartness and sustainability. This paper proposes a novel hybrid methodology combining the Best-Worst Method (BWM) and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) to assess the level of maturity for supply chain smartness and sustainability by weighting the functions of supply chain management. A twin-QFD technique is used to obtain a conceptual design to determine the relationship between the functions of supply chain smartness tools and sustainability indicators to assess the level of maturity, whereas the BWM is used to determine the weights of the functions of supply chain management. A case study in the automotive manufacturing industry is applied to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach. The findings disclose the prominent smart technologies (simulation, big data analytics, cloud computing) and sustainability indicators (costs, lead time, and damage and loss) in integrating Industry 4.0 technologies and sustainable supply chain practices. Findings also suggest a guideline to compare the current and targeted levels of smartness and sustainability maturity. This study provides insights for scholars and practitioners and contributes to the body of knowledge by evaluating companies' maturity of digital transformation and sustainable practices in the supply chain functions.Öğe A Novel Methodology for Prioritizing Zero-Carbon Measures for Sustainable Transport(Elsevier, 2021) Pamucar, Dragan; Deveci, Muhammet; Canitez, Fatih; Paksoy, Turan; Lukovac, VeskoAchieving a zero-carbon city requires a long-term strategic perspective. Transport emissions are a major source of carbon emissions, and cities grapple with reducing carbon emissions, and improving the air quality for their citizens. London's new transport strategy document, called Mayor's Transport Strategy 2018, aims to achieve a zero-carbon city by 2050 and set out many actions to facilitate this transition. However, London needs a prioritisation framework which would take into account the financial, environmental and social impacts of these actions. Considering the uncertainties around these actions, which has been now significantly more crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic, this study proposes a novel extension of Best-Worst Method (BWM) and extension of the TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese for Iterative Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM)) method using D numbers. This TODIM-D based fuzzy MCDM approach provides a prioritisation framework for the actions associated with zero-carbon city policies set out in London's strategy document. According to the results of the proposed method, introducing zero-emission zones should be selected as the first initiative to implement. The prioritization of this initiative allows London to achieve a zero-carbon transport by having the greatest impact on the modal shift from cars to sustainable mobility modes with a lower operational and implementation cost as well as having greater public support. The proposed method used in this study can be transferred to other cities which aim to achieve a zero-carbon transport. (C) 2021 Institution of Chemical Engineers. Published by Elsevier B.V. We introduce a novel model, the overall competitiveness efficiency, which points out that a company's competitiveness level incorporates capabilities matching five environmental forces. The five forces are: bargaining power of suppliers, bargaining power of buyers, threats of substitutes, threats of new entrants, and rivalry among existing competitors. The overall competitiveness efficiency model also consists of five dimensions: bargaining power against suppliers, bargaining power against buyers, competitive power against substitutes, competitive power against new entrants, and competitive power against competitors. We develop three quantifiable indicators for each dimension and operationalize these indicators with objective metrics. To show the models' applicability, we conduct a case study in a hydraulics press industry company by collecting quantitative data from document analysis, secondary data analysis, semi-structured in-terviews, and observations. Our model gives managers insight into improving the company's competitiveness by focusing on weaknesses and capitalizing on the strengths through measurable competitiveness indicators and metrics. The models' implications guide managers in making strategic decisions on the competitive position in the market.Öğe Readiness and Maturity of Smart and Sustainable Supply Chains: A Model Proposal(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2023) Demir, Sercan; Gunduz, Mehmet Akif; Kayikci, Yasanur; Paksoy, TuranMany companies embrace Industry 4.0 technologies to enable operational sustainability against increasing climate change effects, decreasing natural resources, and raising consumer awareness of environmental issues. Even though readiness and maturity assessment of smartness and sustainability concepts are nested, no study simultaneously focuses on these concepts. As pioneering research, we propose a novel model titled Smart and Sustainable Supply chain Readiness and Maturity model (S3RM) and validate it by conducting a case study in the automotive industry. We design our model upon the triple-bottom-line (TBL) approach consisting of smartness and sustainability dime5nsions. Our study introduces the TBL of smartness covering availability, integrity, and adaptability sub-dimension. TBL of sustainability includes social, environmental, and economic sub-dimensions. The proposed model calculates the Smart and Sustainable Readiness and Maturity Index by averaging sustainability scores' summation and smartness scores' multiplication. Each sub-dimension consists of items measured by a readiness and maturity scale. The findings suggest how smartness and sustainability items create strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for the supply chain operations. Our model provides managerial implications in assessing the readiness and maturity of Industry 4.0 tools and sustainability indicators. This study offers a road map to managers on smart and sustainable supply chains' defined target areas.Öğe Strategy development for supplier selection process with smart and sustainable criteria in fuzzy environment(Elsevier, 2022) Demiralay, Enes; Paksoy, TuranSupply chain management has been mutated to adapt to the developments over the last couple of decades. Smart paradigms, one of today's most significant paradigm shifts, occur in almost every moment of our daily lives. On the other hand, the importance of sustainability has increased more and more, reducing available resources of our world and increasing the effect of climate change and environmental degradation. In this context, this study it is aimed to develop a strategy for the supplier selection process by investigating the impacts of using different fuzzy environments and different decision-making methods on smart and sustainable supplier selection. The applicability of the proposed approaches has been demonstrated by a supplier selection case study of Company V, an automobile spare parts manufacturer. With the comparative analyzes made, it has been observed that although different fuzzy environments or varying decision-making methods in supplier selection create minor differences in criterion weights, it does not make any difference in supplier evaluations. For this reason, it has been concluded that it does not affect supplier selection. In addition, it was investigated how different supplier distributions in the strategies developed with the scenario analyzes affected each purpose of Company V, and an increase was observed in purchasing costs, carbon emission rates, quality rates, and on-time delivery rates when their importance levels increased from sustainable to smart criteria. To the authors' best knowledge, strategy development for the smart and sustainable criteria-based supplier selection process is a pioneering work in this field as it has never been studied before in the literature.Öğe The Use of Blockchain in Aviation Safety Reporting Systems: A Framework Proposal(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2022) Aktas, Ersin; Demir, Sercan; Paksoy, TuranObjective The purpose of this study is to propose a blockchain-based framework for designing an incident reporting system in aviation. Background The incident reporting system plays a key role in ensuring safety. It helps to obtain safety-related data and to eliminate unsafe situations before they turn into accidents. Keeping safety information permanently and in unchangeable form, tracking all the transactions regarding unsafe situations, and providing feedback to all parties have great importance for the efficiency of the system. Therefore, the reporting system should be designed with appropriate technology. Blockchain, a digital ledger, offers a decentralized, transparent, and flexible infrastructure for various implementation areas. As a breakthrough in software technology, blockchain significantly supports many design aspects of the incident reporting system. Method The literature on three related areas, incident reporting, organizational memory, and blockchain technology, were reviewed. Later, the main requirements for effective safety reporting were identified. Finally, the extent to which blockchain technology meets these requirements was delineated by a proposed framework. Findings The proposed framework mainly brings full transparency and accountability in incident analysis, increases the effectiveness of the feedback mechanism, and strengthens confidentiality. In addition, this framework enables the creation of a robust safety memory. Conclusion This study indicated that blockchain offers a suitable design technology for incident reporting, contributing, security, transparency, and anonymity aspects of the incident reporting system.
