Öğe Coexistence of Behcet's Disease and Ankylosing Spon-dylitis(Modestum Ltd, 2013) Kucuksen, Sami; Bagcaci, Sinan; Karahan, A. Yavuz; Sahin, Muhammed; Ugurlu, HaticeBehcet's disease (BD) is a disease which has effects on different systems. Genital ulcer, aphthous stomatitis and iritis are characterized by triple symptom complex of BD. BD is considered to be a systemic vasculitis. BD was previously accepted in spondy-loarthropathy (SSpA) group, but there are many reasons for not classifying BD as one of SSpA group. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a prototype of seronegative spondyloarthropathy, and mainly axial skeleton is affected. In this paper, we aimed to present a-33-year old female patient with coexistence of BD and AS. In addition, the coexistence was aimed to be discussed.Öğe An important cause of pes planus: the posterior tibial tendon dysfunction(Pagepress Publ, 2015) Erol, Kemal; Karahan, Ali Yavuz; Kerimoglu, Ulku; Ordahan, Banu; Tekin, Levent; Sahin, Muhammed; Kaydok, ErcanPosterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD) is an important cause of acquired pes planus that frequently observed in adults. Factors that play a role in the development of PTTD such as age-related tendon degeneration, inflammatory arthritis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, peritendinous injections and more rarely acute traumatic rupture of the tendon. PTT is the primary dynamic stabilizer of medial arch of the foot. Plantar flexion and inversion of the foot occurs with contraction of tibialis posterior tendon, and arch of the foot becomes elaveted while midtarsal joints are locked and midfoot-hindfoot sets as rigid. Thus, during the walk gastrocnemius muscle works more efficiently. If the PTT does not work in the order, other foot ligaments and joint capsule would be increasingly weak and than pes planus occurs. We present a 10-yearold female patient diagnosed as PTTD and conservative treatment with review of the current literature.Öğe Is major depression associated with serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha in patients with rheumatoid arthritis?(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2015) Uguz, Faruk; Kucuk, Adem; Aydogan, Semra; Arslan, Sevket; Kurt, Hatice Guncu; Toker, Aysun; Sahin, MuhammedObjective: This study presents the serum tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) levels in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients with major depression and without any psychiatric disorder. Methods: The study sample included 61 patients with a diagnosis of RA. Major depression and other psychiatric disorders were screened with the Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition. Blood sample for the determination of serum TNF-alpha level was obtained before the psychiatric interview. Results: The prevalence rates of any depressive disorder and any anxiety disorder were 40.3% (n = 25) and 22.6% (n = 14), respectively. Fifteen (24.2%) patients had major depression alone, whereas 27 (43.5%) patients were not diagnosed with any psychiatric disorder. We could not determine any significant differences between the patients with major depression alone and patients without any psychiatric diagnosis with regard to the serum levels of TNF-alpha. Conclusions: The existence of major depression in RA patients does not seem to be associated with serum levels of TNF-ce. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. Hypopituitarism may occur in old age with fatigue, decrease in libido, weight loss and musculoskeletal symptoms as a major cause of the overall condition impairment. As one gets older, the signs of these two diseases may progress even without any significant disease. The natural process which comes with old age, and pseudogout and hypopituitarism can mask one to another clinically and the symptoms of three situation may be overlapping. This can lead to difficulty and delay in diagnosis. Our case was an elderly female patient diagnosed with hypopituitarism and pseudogout.Öğe Miscible Two Diseases in Old Age: Hypopituitarism and Pseudogout(Modestum Ltd, 2016) Gulyer, Huseyin; Savut, Bulent; Sahin, Muhammed; Gungor, Tayfun; Kucuk, Adem; Kulaksizoglu, Mustafa; Kaya, AhmetCalcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease is a disease characterized by collecting of crystals in hyaline cartilage, fibrocartilage and soft tissues, related to many endocrine and metabolic conditions, and seen more commonly in old age.
