The most important predictor variable on classroom management in technology-assisted courses is negative beliefs about technology use.Öğe Developing Computational Thinking Skills of High School Students: Design-Based Learning Activities and Programming Tasks(Springer Heidelberg, 2020) Saritepeci, MustafaThis paper is to investigate into the effect of design-based learning (DBL) activities and programing training on computational thinking (CT) skills. In total, 119 from the ninth grade students were recruited for this study conducted within the scope of Computer Science course. A semi-experimental research design was adopted, and DBL activities were included in one group, while the other group attended in the programming training took place. The duration of the study was planned as fourteen weeks and the data were obtained in the 1st and 14th weeks of the experimentation. During the analysis phase, the paired sample t test was employed for in-group comparisons, whereas the independent samples t test analysis was utilized to make comparisons between groups. This study finds evidence to suggest that there was a significant positive development at CT levels after the experimentation in both groups. The most remarkable result to emerge from the data is that DBL activities had also a similar effect on CT skills compared to programming training considered as important in teaching CT and developing it. Further inquiries should be undertaken in the relationship between DBL and programming training with CT skill through qualitative or mixed research designs in depth.Öğe Examination of the Relationship between Cyberbullying and Cyber Victimization(Springer, 2020) Yildiz Durak, Hatice; Saritepeci, MustafaBehaviors which are conducted via information technologies, which are irritating, and which cause psychological strain for the individuals are categorized as cyberbullying (CB). Cyber victimization (CV), on the other hand, expresses exposure to CB behaviors. In this study, we utilize General Strain Theory (GST) as the theoretical basis to examine the relationship between CB and exposure to CV among university students. GST explains that individuals may display aberrant behaviors in order to alleviate psychological strains and the negative emotions they experience. Accordingly, individuals who experienced CV may display CB when the conditions are suitable. With that in mind, we examined the relationship between CB and CV using a relational screening model with participation of 3302 university students. We found, consistent with the literature, a direct relationship between CB and CV in all models. However, it was determined that their mediating effects are not meaningful when the variables of metacognitive and digital data security awareness (DDSA) are added to the model separately. When these two variables are added to the model together as the mediator at the same time, DDSA negatively mediates the relation between CB and CV. Including various activities aiming to develop DDSA within intervention programs for CB and CV, may improve positive outcomes for participants.Öğe Examination of University Students' Opinions on Use of Augmented Reality Technology in Archeology Field(Ani Publishing, 2020) Durak, Hatice Yildiz; Saritepeci, Mustafa; Cam, Fatma BagdatliIn this study, determination of students' opinions on use of augmented reality(AR) in archeology field is aimed. We collected data from participants utilizing a personal and video games information form and five scales and (video game positive perception, videogame addiction scale, video engagement scale, multidimensional scale of perceived social support and relational health indices). These scales are valid and reliable instruments suitable for research purposes. The primary data analysis method was the Partial least squares- structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Our results demonstrated that the relationship between VGA and VGE differs based on the participants' video gaming competency level. Another important result is that VGPP has a significant positive relationship with VGA (p < 0.001), VGE (p < 0.001) and video game playing and watching activities (p < 0.001). Furthermore, an increase in the time spent on watching Twitch content is associated with an increased VGA level (p < 0.05). Finally, the time spent on playing video games has different patterns with perceptions of social support according to the level of expertise of the players. This study indicates that VGPP plays a crucial role in predicting VGA and VE and highlights the importance of considering the level of players when examining the relationship between VGA and VE. The conclusions also exhibit that the increasing popularity of esports and video game content tracking may significantly impact VGA. The role of social support in video gaming behaviors varies based on the player's level of expertise.Öğe Investigation of personal variables, technology usage, vaccine-related variables, social media-specific epistemological beliefs, media literacy, social impact strategies variables affecting vaccine hesitancy beliefs in the Covid-19 pandemic(Springer Heidelberg, 2023) Durak, Hatice Yildiz; Gokalp, Zeynep Simsir; Saritepeci, Mustafa; Dilmac, Bulent; Durak, AykutAimIn this study, personal variables, technology use cases, vaccine-related variables, social media-specific epistemological beliefs, media literacy, and social influence strategies were examined as predictors of Covid-19 vaccination hesitancy (VH) beliefs.Subject and methodsThe prediction design research model is used to detect the predictors of the dependent variable. Burnout is encountered in different occupational groups. However, in professions that are in contact with a large number of people as part of their responsibilities, such as teaching, burnout is a problem that is far more on the foreground. In addition, emotional burnout, which is seen as the first step before occupational burnout, can cause workers to feel insufficient at the point of carrying out tasks related to their duties, leading to behaviour that is out of their fields such as cyberloafing. Addressing this situation in terms of teaching profession, the feeling of inadequacy in educational activities during the course may prevent the teacher from fulfilling any responsibilities while using a device that has internet access. In this context, the aim of this study is to investigate the factors that predict the cyberloafing and burnout levels of teachers working in different fields. This research is a relational research. This research was carried out with the participations of 194 teachers from different branches working in various provinces in Turkey. In this study, a personal information form and three different data collection tools were used. Analysis of the collected data was performed by hierarchical linear multiple regression analysis. The 9 models, created separately with cyberloafing and burnout, were found to be significant in the study. Demographic variables, ICT usage status variables, occupational variables and personality traits were used in these models. Therefore, all the hypotheses included in the research were accepted. As a result of the research, demographic variables were found to be the most important model to predict teachers' occupational burnout. The most important model explaining teachers' cyberloafing situations is their ICT usage. (C) 2018 Western Social Science Association. Published by Elsevier Inc.
