    Benefiting From Power of The Crowd: Contribution of Crowds to the Idea Evaluation Phase

    The Covid-19 pandemic has put the world in a serious crisis by damaging the functioning of many systems (i.e.,health, economy, trade). Online communities have also tried to find solutions to minimize the negative effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. One of these communities conducted a program in Turkey to minimize the risky effects brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program took place over a three-month period (April 2020 to June 2020) during the open innovation platform powered by innoCentrum. In this process, an accelerator program was carried out to gather, evaluate, and implement innovative ideas. During the evaluation phase of an idea, the assessments of other entrepreneurs who submitted ideas were also taken into consideration by a rating system. The aim of this study is to reveal whether there is a relationship between the contribution levels of crowds (entrepreneurs) and the best ideas selected during the evaluation phase. While the result of the study shows that there is a significant relationship between the average scores given by the crowds with the scores given by the mentors who mainly evaluated the ideas, there is no significant relationship between the number of crowds' comments and the number of crowds' vote with the scores given by the mentors.

    Crowdfunding and Open Innovation Together: A Conceptual Framework of a Hybrid Crowd Innovation Model

    Crowdfunding and open innovation make great contributions to the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem. In this study, we conduct exploratory research to put forward the mechanisms that are developed to benefit from crowds to carry out innovative projects in the context of open innovation and crowdfunding. Our main research problem is whether there is a digital platform that enables both knowledge/technology transfer and project collaboration of entrepreneurs and enterprises on project/idea development. We observe that a hybrid crowd innovation model is needed to create various collaboration and innovation opportunities between entrepreneurs, SMEs, start-ups and corporate enterprises. In this context, we put forth a conceptual framework to show that greater opportunities will emerge in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation if crowdfunding and open innovation hybridize. The main purpose of this study is to propose a conceptual framework within this scope and then to verify the framework by creating a model as a future study.

    Industry 4.0 and Turkey

    In 2011, Germany kicked off the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) to empower its economy. Since then, revolutionary changes have been implemented all over the world, increasing international competition. Smart-factory capabilities emerging from Industry 4.0 have many benefits such as lowering production costs of existing factories and increasing product quality. However, with such revolutionary changes, an orientation period is required for any implementer. To efficiently manage such an orientation period, the extant situation must first be analyzed. Only then should the necessary changes and innovations be applied. In this study, Turkey’s Industry 4.0 adoption opportunities are evaluated by using a survey technique that analyzes extant situations and potential results.
