Öğe 3D DOCUMENTATION OF PORTAL MUQARNASES IN ANATOLIAN MADRASAHS WITH DIGITAL CLOSE RANGE PHOTOGRAMMETRIC METHOD(Univ Agean, Dept Mediterranean Stud, 2017) Karabork, Hakan; Yaldiz, Esra; Karasaka, LutfiyeMuqarnases, which are one of the most significant building elements brought in the architecture by Islam art, are three dimensional and complex geometrical compositions that are made with prismatic elements constituted with specific rules in specific combinations, with both ornamental, bearing features. Therefore, the surveys of muqarnases require a long, fragile, dangerous and difficult process. At that point, photogrammetry works come in and make the process of survey short, free of danger and mistakes as a useful application. Digital close range photogrammetry is one of the most active and efficient methods among the works to protect and document the cultural heritage by the means of the improvements of digital technology. Within the scope of this study, the surveys of the muqarnases in the portals of the Anatolian Madrasahs in Konya, Karaman and Aksaray in Central Anatolia Region were obtained with the use digital close range photogrammetry technique and 3D documentation works were made. With the 3D works, morphological features and differences of the muqarnases were determined. It was aimed to contribute to works to protect and document Konya Karatay Madrasah, Karaman Hatuniye Madrasah and Aksaray Zinciriye Madrasah.Öğe EVALUATION OF DOMESTIC ARCHITECTURE VIA THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABILITY: Cases from Konya City Center(Archnet-Ijar, 2015) Aydin, Dicle; Yaldiz, Esra; Siramkaya, Suheyla BuyuksahinReusing pre-existing buildings for new functions and thereby ensuring the transfer of cultural knowledge and experiences to future generations contributes significantly to cultural sustainability by enhancing the city's cultural life and the value of certain city areas. When reusing buildings the social aspect of the functions that will be assigned to these buildings that no longer serve their original function need to be considered as well, since such aspects form the basis of socio-cultural sustainability. The aim of this study was to evaluate various examples of domestic architecture at the Konya city center that no longer serve their original functions, within the context of socio-cultural sustainability. The common characteristics of these buildings, which are currently being reused as cafes or as the offices of the Conservation Board and the Chamber of Architects in Konya, is that they are all examples of authentic domestic architecture that are registered for preservation and are located in the city center. The contribution of these examples of domestic architecture to socio-cultural sustainability was analyzed by administering a questionnaire to university students and then evaluating the questionnaire results with descriptive statistics.Öğe Evaluations of Cultural Perception Performance By Users On the Basis of Re-Use of Monumental Building: The Case of Sivas's Buruciye Madrasah(Yildiz Technical Univ, Fac Architecture, 2016) Yaldiz, Esra; Asatekin, Nafia GulThe purpose of a conservation act is to secure cultural heritage so that the associated cultural values can be passed on to future generations. Hence, conservation that is defined as to keep alive in a manner that includes yesterday, today, and tomorrow is regarded as a cultural act. One of the major justifications for conservation is to ensure the integrity of a monumental building in terms of authenticity, documental contribution, historic and architectural value, continuity, and usage. Giving a monumental building a purpose ensures an interaction with the public and preserves an object of cultural heritage. The most important point to bear in mind is the need to achieve the correct balance between conservation and functional modification. Within the framework of conservation criteria, it is critical to preserve the structure's authenticity as well as satisfy the new users. The performance level of a repurposed monumental building, which can also be defined as cultural perception performance, will contribute to how characteristics such as authenticity, and the symbolic, historic, and cultural values of a building are perceived by users. This study is an analysis of the case of the Buruciye Madrasah, a single-story Anatolian Seljuk period building with an open courtyard plan located in the Central Anatolian Region in the city of Sivas that is now a handicrafts market and tea garden. The cultural perception performance of this cultural heritage building was assessed in order to determine if the authenticity value of the building was accurately perceived by users.Öğe MODERN ARCHITECTURE BUILDINGS CONSTRUCTED THROUGH COMPETITION IN THE HISTORIC SETTINGS: THE CASE OF GOVERNMENT HOUSES (1965-1985)(Middle East Technical Univ, 2021) Bulbul Bahtiyar, Tuba; Yaldiz, EsraThe settlements and buildings witnessing a civilization, development or an event at a certain period constitute the historical environments. Conservation of the buildings forming architectural identity and ensuring the sustainability of urban integrity requires the assessment of these buildings along with the newly added architectural layers. Many buildings were constructed within the historical settings of urban centers in the 20th century. Having been constructed through competitions, government houses provide significant data for developing different and authentic perspectives toward the historical urban environment. Many governmental houses were constructed within the historical settings and through the concept of historical building neighbourhood in Turkey between 1965 and 1985. Construction of new forms in old settings requires a difficult and complicated designing process that cannot be established with clear lines. Reviewing the already-existing examples is necessary for mentioning about the consistency or appropriateness of relevant approaches. Aiming to examine the concept of new building through the government houses in the historical settings, this study reviewed the Government Houses constructed as a new building next to a historical building following national architectural project competitions in the Turkish cities of Artvin, Hatay, Sinop, Sivas, Afyon and Erzincan between 1965 and 1985. Moreover, assessments were performed using the criteria that were specified in relation to the charters, codes and regulations issued along with the approaches of new building toward the historical pattern defined by the national and international bodies, institutions and experts of conserving cultural heritage.Öğe A PROPOSED MODEL FOR POST OCCUPANCY EVALUATION OF MONUMENTAL BUILDINGS(Middle East Technical Univ, 2016) Yaldiz, Esra; Asatekin, N. GulThe fact of conservation is defined as keeping the cultural values from the past alive and providing the sustainability with the concern of transferring them to the next generations and assuring the cultural heritage. Reuse of the monumental buildings, which are identified as spatial traces of common life experience and handled in the scope of conservation, is important for their preservation and evaluation. Reuse of the monumental buildings forms the basis of sustainability understanding and new function happens to be an input to provide the sustainability of the building. According to the sustainable conservation principles, the adaptation of the monumental buildings to contemporary usages is connected to function-building-environment relationships. The utility is a precondition for providing the habitability and sustainability. This can be supplied by evaluating the occupancy process before the conservation applications and directing the interventions. The most important point in Post Occupancy Evaluation is determining the level of utility and habitability. In determining utility and habitability level, conserving the physical and spatial characteristics of the monumental building and keeping them alive are aroused as an important input. It is necessary to provide the new function-monumental building adaptation and fulfill the requirements of its new users and new function in an optimum level for the conservation to be sustainable. It is needed to confirm the spatial and functional necessities of the new function and investigate the fulfillment level of the existing spaces in the monumental building for the new requirements and determine the satisfaction degree of the buildings new users for identifying the new function-monumental building adaptation level. In this context, in the study new conceptual frame is composed by gathering the conservation action and Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) approach, identified as the comparison between the existing situation and performance standards determined by user requirements, together. In the direction of this conceptual frame, A Proposed Model for Post Occupancy Evaluation of Monumental Buildings which depends on the objective data and research methods and can be used for determining the adaptation level of the existing space/spaces in the reuse of the monumental buildings those lost their original function, is evolved.
