Öğe Bilateral upper-extremity deep vein thrombosis following central cord syndrome(Maney Publishing, 2013) Onmez, Hilal; Cingoz, Havva Turac; Kucuksen, Sami; Anliacik, Emel; Yasar, Ozan; Yilmaz, Halim; Salli, AliDeep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a common complication following spinal cord injury (SCI). Although DVT of the upper extremity is much less common than DVT of the lower extremities, the risk of pulmonary embolism following upper-extremity DVT should not be disregarded. Method: Case report. Findings: A bilateral upper-extremity DVT developed in a 51-year-old woman with SCI (central cord syndrome) being followed in our rehabilitation clinic. Medical treatment resulted in improvement in the clinical status of the patient as well as the regression in the thrombus. Conclusion: In patients with SCI, DVT should be kept in mind in the presence of pain and edema in the upper extremities, and prophylactic DVT treatment should be considered.Öğe Sever Disease: An Important Cause of Heel Pain in Children; Case Report(Galenos Yayincilik, 2014) Karahan, Yavuz Ali; Salbas, Ender; Tekin, Levent; Yasar, Ozan; Kucuk, AdemCalcaneal apophysitis is the most common cause of heel pain in children and described as Sever disease. Sever disease typically occurs during a growth spurt and at the beginning of a new sport season. The disease is associated with only the heel pain in children and does not occur after puberty. In a child presenting with heel pain, the differential diagnosis may include achilles tendonitis, retrocalcaneal bursitis, calcaneal stress fractures, calcaneal cysts, osteomyelitis, and plantar fasciitis. Other reasons included in the differential diagnosis can be ruled out with a well-performed clinical evaluation. Although Sever disease is a common clinical entity there are quite a few documentations about this disease in national and international literature. In this article we aimed to present a 12-year-old male patient who presented with complaints of bilateral heel pain and limping, and to evaluate signs and symptoms, diagnostic approaches and treatment protocols of the disease in the light of current literature.
