ESR Characterization of Two Oxovanadium (IV) Schiff Base Complexes Derived from Tris(2-aminoethyl)amine
(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2012) Sahin, Mustafa; Kocak, Nuriye; Sayin, Ulku; Yilmaz, Mustafa
The compounds, C21H27N4O3(L-1) and C21H27N7(L-2), is a tripodal Schiff base that was obtained from the reaction of tris(2-aminoethyl)amine (tren) and furan-2-carbaldehyde and pyrole-2-carbaldehyde. The tripodal Schiff bases and their oxovanadium complexes have been characterized on the basis of the results of the elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility measurements and spectroscopic studies FT-IR, H-1-NMR, UV-Vis, ESR, magnetic moment and thermal analysis (TGA). Job's method of continuous variation shows 3: 2 metal to ligand ratio.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from unrelated donors in children with DOCK8 deficiency
(Wiley, 2017) Uygun, Dilara Fatma K.; Uygun, Vedat; Reisli, Ismail; Keles, Sevgi; Ozen, Ahmet; Yilmaz, Mustafa; Sayar, Esra H.
DIDS is a unique form of combined immune deficiency characterized by an unusual susceptibility to cutaneous viral infections, severe allergies with eosinophilia and elevated immunoglobulin E titers, autoimmunity, and cancer. HSCT is considered the standard of care for this deadly disease. We have retrospectively analyzed the outcome of allogeneic HSCT from unrelated donors in patients with DIDS. Data from four patients, with five transplants, are presented. All patients received transplants from unrelated donors' BM, except for one patient who received a cord blood transplant. The conditioning regimens were based on myeloablative protocols for BM derived transplants; a NM regimen was pursued for the patient who received a cord blood transplant, which resulted in graft rejection. Although recurrent pneumonia and skin infections resolved immediately after transplantation, all patients subsequently developed human herpesvirus infection, including cutaneous herpetic lesions, cytomegalovirus reactivation, and zona zoster, which could be attributed to the use of ATG. Despite the presence of serious morbidities prior to transplantation, all patients recovered successfully. DIDS can be successfully treated with allogeneic HSCT from unrelated donors following a myeloablative conditioning regimen, with a reasonable safety profile.

A new anthracene derivative of calix[4]arene as a fluorescent chemosensor
(2013) Şahin, Özlem; Şahin, Mustafa; Koçak, Nuriye; Yilmaz, Mustafa
A new anthracene derivative of calix[4]arene was synthesized as a highly fluorescent compound. This compound was examined for its fluorescent properties towards different metal ions (Li, Na, Mg2, Ca2, Ba2, Ni 2, Cu2, Zn 2, Pb2) by UV and fluorescence spectroscopy. On complexation by alkaline earth metal cations and transition metal cations, the fluorescence spectrum was quenched. In particular, Ca 2 caused greater than 98% quenching of the anthracene derivative of calix[4]arene.

Synthesis of asymmetrical tridendate Schiff bases and metal complexes and investigation of anticarcinogen effects on human colon and cervical cancers
(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2017) Sahin, Mustafa; Korkmaz, Hatice; Kocak, Nuriye; Sahin, Ozlem; Karakurt, Serdar; Yilmaz, Mustafa
The metal complexes of Zn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Pb(II) with asymmetrical Schiff bases were synthesized. The asymmetrical Schiff base was obtained through the condensation of 1,2-phenylenediamine, 4-methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine, 2-hydroxy-1-napthaldehyde and biphenyl-4-carbaldehyde. The new Schiff base ligands (L-1' and L-2') and their metal complexes were characterized by TG/DTG, FT-IR, H-1-NMR, UV-Vis, ESR, powder XRD, elemental analysis, magnetic moment and fluorescence studies. The powder XRD studies indicate that Co(II) and Cu(II) complexes are amorphous, while Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes are crystalline. The anticarcinogenic effects of L-1' and L-2' were also investigated against colon (SW-620) and cervical cancer (HeLa) cell lines and compound L-2' was found to possess the highest anticarcinogenic potential, with 16.7 mu M and 27.5 mu M of IC50 values for HeLa and SW620 cells, respectively.

Teachers' views on the effect of STEM education on the labor market
(Frontiers Media Sa, 2023) Akcan, Ahmet Tayfur; Yildirim, Bekir; Karatas, Ali Rauf; Yilmaz, Mustafa
IntroductionThis paper explores teachers' views on the impact of STEM education on the labor market. This study focused on teachers' views to investigate STEM education and the labor market and the relationship between the two. MethodsThe sample consisted of 32 teachers from different branches. Participants were recruited using purposive convenience sampling. This paper adopted a qualitative case study research design. Qualitative data were collected using a semi-structured interview form. The qualitative data were analyzed using inductive content and descriptive analysis. ResultsParticipants stated that STEM education offered new fields of work, promoted entrepreneurship, and increased job opportunities. They also noted that STEM education helped reduce social costs. They emphasized that STEM education made participants happy, prevented brain drain, and reduced social problems. On the other hand, they also noted that STEM education could lead to technological unemployment. The descriptive analyses showed that STEM education had a positive impact on employment, a reduction in social costs, and a positive impact on underemployment. In light of the results, we made recommendations for future research.

Validity of the Phillips Curve in the Agricultural Sector and Asymmetric Effects: The Case of Türkiye
(Ankara Univ, Fac Agriculture, 2023) Koktas, Altug Murat; Ozuyar, Sevilay Ece Gumus; Apaydin, Sukru; Akcan, Ahmet Tayfur; Yilmaz, Mustafa
Although the employment share of agriculture, which has historically been the main job creator sector, has decreased over time, it still plays an essential role in newly industrializing countries such as Turkiye. However, the depth of the decline in employment is due to the economic impact of agriculture rather than its share of GDP. One way to measure this effect is to adapt the Phillips curve (PC) for the agricultural sector. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the validity of the Phillips curve in the Turkish agricultural sector and the short- and long-term linear and non-linear relationships caused by shocks on unemploymentinflation. The study was conducted via the augmented Dickey -Fuller, Phillips -Perron, and Zivot-Andrews unit root tests as well as the autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL) and the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag model (NARDL) via the Turkish Statistical Institute's (TURKSTAT) 2014Q1 -2021Q3 dataset. The cointegration coefficient was negative, yet statistically significant. Also, the short-term imbalances were eliminated, and the system converged to the equilibrium values in the long -run with significant fluctuations. The long -run negative cointegrated relationship and PC validity in negative shocks are the most significant results of the study.
