A Fuzzy-Genetic Based Design of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor
    (2018) Mutluer, Mümtaz
This paper presents a fuzzy-genetic based design of permanent magnet synchronous motor. The selected motor structure withsurface magnet and double layer winding is for high torque and low speed applications. The design approach involves combining fuzzylogic and genetic algorithm in a powerful combination. While the genetic algorithm is used in scanning of the solution space, the fuzzylogic approach has been utilized in selecting the most appropriate solutions. While choosing geometric parameters as input for optimization, design equations are obtained by using geometrical, electrical and magnetic properties of the motor. The output results are evaluated withmotor efficiency, motor weight and weight of magnets as the objective function. Furthermore, the multiobjective design optimizationresults are compared with the results obtained for each single objective and tested with a finite element program. The results are finallyremarkable and quite compatible with the finite element results.

Paravalvular kaçaklı mekanik kalp kapak ses sinyallerinin ayrık dalgacık dönüşümüyle incelenmesi
    (2016) Altunkaya, Sabri

Economical and Technical Challenges of a Large Scale Solar Plant
    (2017) Yağcı, Mustafa
Turkish government has increased the importance of Konya-Karapınar region by making the area a pilot region for solar energy production. In the near future, the government plans to have a 1 GW solar energy plant in the area. According to this master plan, a pilot solar energy production system was established in the Necmettin Erbakan University campus. A 1000W two-axis tracking and 1000W fixed panels were implemented in this system. In this paper, the performance of these panels are compared and evaluated. 25 years of solar radiation data for Konya is taken from the state meteorology institute, and the produced energy is compared with the predicted values. Tracking panels are found to be approximately 25% more efficient than the fixed panels. However, the maintenance of the tracking panels is observed to be more costly. Moreover periodic cleaning and repairs are found to be very important and another cost factor for both systems. Using the insight from this pilot system, an economic analysis of a large scale 1MW solar energy plant to be established in the campus is performed. For this analysis, fixed panels are considered due to the low investment and maintenance costs and the simplicity of the maintenance work. It is found that the 1MW solar plant will recover the investment cost within 4-5 years and will provide almost 3M profit after 20 years.

Automation of the Two Stage Biodiesel Production Process
(2015) Oğuz, Hidayet; Özcan, Muciz; Yağcı, Mustafa; Özkan, Ali Osman
The control of the biodiesel production plays an important role on achieving the production standard of the biodiesel. The quality of the produced biodiesel depends on the raw materials, alcohol and catalyst selections and process and storage conditions. The control of the biodiesel production not only enables to achieve high quality biodiesel but also maintains the continuity of the product quality. In this work, an automation system for a two stage biodiesel production is designed and realized. A PLC (Programming Logic Control) based system is used for this purpose. The designed and realized biodiesel production facility enables to produce biodiesel using either a single stage or a two stage process. The quality of the biodiesels separately produced using a single stage and a two stage process are analyzed and compared. The analysis results show that a two stage biodiesel production process gives better results compared to the single stage in fuel density, viscosity and flash point

Intelligent Systems and Applications in Engineering Advanced Technology and Science
    (2017) Mutluer, Mümtaz
Permanentmagnet synchronous motors have been preferred in industrial fields for a few decades. It is reason for that the permanent magnet synchronous motors have high torque/volume ratio, large flux weakening region, and especially highly efficient. The main factor to obtain these advantages is the selection of suitable geometric parameters in their design optimizations. As a design optimizationthis study investigates external rotor permanent magnet synchronous motor with fractional slot windings. Pre-analytical designs and subsequently design optimizations by genetic algorithm and differential evolution algorithm have been studied. Thebetter resultsobtained were tested by the finite element method. Thus, so much more compact and efficient motor model was to be achieved based on the design geometries. The results are very reasonable and useful

Design and realization of a welding oscillator
    (2014) Özcan, Muciz
Welding is one of the most popular methods to combine metal pieces in manufacturing processes. Arc welding, among all welding techniques, is the most commonly used in manufacturing due to its cost and flexibility. During the manufacturing process, arc welding is either performed by an operator or by automatic tools such as welding oscillators. Using automatic tools has advantages over manual use, as the process will be faster, cheaper, and have less welding flaws. In this paper, a homemade welding oscillator and the method to manufacture it are presented. The presented welding oscillator can be manufactured for a very low price compared to those on the market. Moreover, it covers industry-level needs and provides even more functionality with small adjustments if needed by the application. With this work, small-scaled manufacturing foundries will benefit from the price and functionality of the welding oscillator.
