This research was carried out to examine the success of primary school second grade students in problems involving large and small numbers and to determine the role of large and small numbers used in the problem on their problem solving success. The study group of the quantitative part of the research, which was designed with an explanatory sequential design from mixed method designs, consists of 154 primary school sophomore students studying in four different primary schools in Konya Province Selçuklu District. The study group of the qualitative part consists of 10 students selected by the purposeful sampling method from the students participating in the quantitative part of the research. In order to use it as a data collection tool in the research, two parallel tests were developed by the researcher. A rubric was also developed by the researcher to use these tests during scoring. In the study, quantitative data were collected by parallel tests and qualitative data were collected by clinical interview method. Quantitative data were analyzed with SPSS and Excel program. Qualitative data were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. As a result of the study, it was concluded that large numbers negatively affect students' problem solving achievements, and students are more successful in small-numbered problems. It was concluded that the large numbers used in the problem were effective on the understanding phase of the problem rather than an operational difficulty. In addition, students think that big number problems are difficult problems. In line with the findings of the research, some suggestions have been made.
