Within the scope of cognitive semantics, metaphors are considered as configurations that are the source of a large part of individuals' linguistic activities and formed as a result of different factors such as perception, attention, framing. The traditional perspective since Aristotle evaluates metaphors only in literary language, within the scope of the aestheticizing function of language. Cognitive semantics, on the other hand, evaluates metaphors as one of the most important linguistic productions that help to follow individual and cultural codes through language. Metaphors are one of the most powerful and effective instruments of social memory, and it is possible to mention two sources in their formation: experiential and cultural factors. In this context, metaphor-based studies have a great importance in the scientific and objective analysis of the pattern that is naturally located in the schemas of individuals through cultural cognition. Through metaphor studies the conceptualization tendencies and perception styles of communities that share a certain language and naturally perception system can be comprehensively revealed. In other words, metaphor-based studies have a very suitable methodological background in terms of obtaining cultural data about language. The aim of this study is to reveal the conceptual metaphors established with the node gonul in folk songs, which is an important linguistic production in Turkish culture. In this context, the unique way of feeling and thinking of Turkish will be discussed in a metaphorical context. The most important motivation for choosing the node gonul in the study is that the word has inherent extensions specific to Turkish and cannot be literally translated into a second language. The study was conducted through the Folk Songs Database consisting of 417 folk songs and 34.226 words. In the data analysis process, first of all, the contextual meanings of each node were determined. Then, it was checked whether the node was more concrete, more explicit, and historically older than its contextual meaning. If the linguistic unit has more basic and archaic meaning than the contextual meaning, it has been compared with its extensions. Finally, if the meaning formed through context contributes to a figurative domain, the linguistic unit is coded as a conceptual metaphor. In the study, it was found that the node gonul has productive metaphorical usages and is conceptualized through many source domains such as Location, Tool, Physical Object, Alive, Container. Within the scope of source domains, different conceptual metaphors were obtained such Gonul Kutsal Binadir, Gonul Mahrem Bir Mulktur, Gonul Zarar Gormeye Acik Bir Nesnedir, Gonul Tahttir, Gonul Kapidir, Gonul Calgidir, Gonul Defterdir, Gonul Kustur, Gonul Duygularin Saklandigi Bir Kaptir. In addition, findings were obtained regarding the usages that are the intersection of metaphor and metonymy.en_US
