The commander of navy, Kaptan-i Derya, Ahmed Fevzi Pasha, surrendered the Ottoman navy to the governor Egypt, Mehmed Ali Pasha, after the Battle of Nizip in 1839 and the following death of Mahmud II. The knowledge over the given case is quite limited in the current literature. The case emerged after the sectarian conflicts at Sublime Porte are reconsidered in respect to newly found sources in the present study. Especially, this research which is prepared with a particular interest on the translator of Fevzi Pasha, Avidick's detailed report found at British National Archives, ascertains significant and new knowledge on how and in what conditions Ottoman navy was surrendered to the governor of Egypt. The role of European Powers, led by France, during developments is also illuminated in the article.en_US
