Öğe Adaptation and evaluation of Turkish version of the fear of COVID-19 Scale(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2022) Haktanir, Abdulkadir; Seki, Tolga; Dilmac, BulentWe investigated the psychometric properties of the Fear of COVID-19 Scale in Turkish among a diverse group with a focus on the prevalence of coronavirus related fear across gender, age intervals, SES, chronic illness situation, and educational level. Based on a confirmatory factor analysis, the Fear of COVID-19 Scale had appropriate psychometric properties for utilization, including excellent goodness-of-fit indices, a Cronbach's alpha value of .86, and discriminant validity, as shown by a significant negative correlation with resilience. Furthermore, group comparison analyses revealed that women reported significantly higher fear of coronavirus. Additionally, individuals from middle SES reported significantly higher fear of coronavirus while the fear of coronavirus did not differ based on participants' educational level, socioeconomic status, and age level. Implications for mental health providers are discussed.Öğe Characteristics of counselors-in-training as a mediator between their values and counseling skills(Springer, 2023) Kurnaz, M. Furkan; Seki, Tolga; Dilmac, BulentResearch on counselors-in-training is necessary to improve the success of the counseling process. The counseling skills used by counselors are critical to managing this process. This paper aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge in counseling pedagogy by examining the role of counselor characteristics as a mediator in the relationship between counselors-in-training values and counseling skills. In this study, we had 524 counselors-in-training from various universities in Turkey. The results showed that the values of counselors-in-training significantly predict their counselor characteristics. Specifically, the values of the counselors-in-training predict their counseling skills, with the mediating role of the counselor characteristics. Additionally, the counselor characteristics of the counselors-in-training significantly predicted their counseling skills. Various practices and methods can be applied to improve counseling skills. Given that the development of values allows counselors-in-training to acquire important counselor characteristics, value education is essential in the training of counselors. Individuals who acquire essential counselor characteristics can use their counseling skills effectively.Öğe Do we experience pandemic fatigue? current state, predictors, and prevention(Springer, 2022) Haktanir, Abdulkadir; Can, Nesime; Seki, Tolga; Kurnaz, M. Furkan; Dilmac, BulentThere is an emerging literature on the mental and physical exhaustion due to the COVID-19 related restrictions. Some individuals seem to exercise fewer precautions recently in comparison to the onset of the pandemic in preventing the spread of the COVID-19. This phenomenon is described as pandemic fatigue. Though acknowledged in conceptual articles and news reports, there is a lack of empirical evidence pertaining to pandemic fatigue. We collected data from 516 adult participants to investigate pandemic fatigue and its relations to fear of coronavirus, intolerance of uncertainty, apathy, and self-care. 34.40% of the participants reported that the level of COVID-19-related precautions they take have decreased in comparison to measures they took at the onset of the pandemic. Additionally, our model examining the role of fear of coronavirus, intolerance of uncertainty, and apathy as mediated by self-care predicting pandemic fatigue demonstrated acceptable to excellent goodness-of-fit indices. The fact that one in every three individuals is taking fewer precautions is not only a threat to the individuals' own health but also to the public. Given that individuals are experiencing pandemic fatigue, governments should consider paying more attention to the biopsychosocial nature of humans in ordering restrictions and planning necessary precautions.Öğe Effect of Gender on Humanistic Values(Kamla-Raj Enterprises, 2015) Buyukbayraktar, Cagla Girgin; Ozteke, H. Irem; Kesici, Sahin; Dilmac, Bulent; Yalcin, S. Barbaros; Eksi, HalilThe aim of this paper is to determine the effect of gender on humanistic values. The study group is composed of 256 high school students. The Humanistic Values Scale was used to determine humanistic values. Humanistic values in the scale are measured with 42 items in six dimensions. This study was conducted in Relational Screening Model. Screening models are research approaches that aim to describe a past or current situation as it was or as it is. Quantitative data obtained as a result of the study were analyzed using the independent t-test, which is used to determine the relation between dependent variable and independent variable and Cohen's technique. According to the findings of the paper, while the effect of gender on responsibility, honesty and tolerance as sub-dimensions of humanistic values was small, its effect on friendship was medium and its effect on being peaceful was great. Discussions and suggestions are made in line with the results.Öğe Examining the Relationships Between Fear of Coronavirus, State Anxiety, and Relationship Happiness Among Married Turkish Individuals During COVID-19(Sage Publications Inc, 2023) Dilmac, Bulent; Karababa, Ali; Seki, Tolga; Simsir, Zeynep; Kurnaz, M. FurkanThe present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of state anxiety in the relationship between the fear of COVID-19 and relationship happiness among married individuals. An additional aim of the study also tested the moderating role of joint family activities between state anxiety and relationship happiness. The study sample consisted of 1713 married individuals (1031 women and 682 men). The study findings showed both the significant direct associations among the studied variables and the mediating role of state anxiety in the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and relationship happiness. It also found that the path of state anxiety to relationship happiness among married individuals having family activities was significantly lower than those who did not. Directions for future research and application were discussed.Öğe Investigation of personal variables, technology usage, vaccine-related variables, social media-specific epistemological beliefs, media literacy, social impact strategies variables affecting vaccine hesitancy beliefs in the Covid-19 pandemic(Springer Heidelberg, 2023) Durak, Hatice Yildiz; Gokalp, Zeynep Simsir; Saritepeci, Mustafa; Dilmac, Bulent; Durak, AykutAimIn this study, personal variables, technology use cases, vaccine-related variables, social media-specific epistemological beliefs, media literacy, and social influence strategies were examined as predictors of Covid-19 vaccination hesitancy (VH) beliefs.Subject and methodsThe prediction design research model is used to detect the predictors of the dependent variable. The study group consists of 378 participants. Five different scales were used together with the self-description form as a data collection tool.ResultsAccording to the results of the research, individuals who have positive perceptions about the safety of Covid-19 vaccines and who have received the Covid-19 vaccine have lower anti-vaccine beliefs. It is another situation that prevents the opposition to vaccination of those who research the source of information on social media. As a result, age, education and income level, social media usage experience, media literacy, and social influence strategies were not effective on the participants' anti-vaccine beliefs.ConclusionAccording to the findings of the study, positive perceptions about the safety of Covid-19 vaccines, being vaccinated against Covid-19, and researching a source of information on social media variables seem to be effective in laying the foundations for constructive interventions such as using anti-vaccine beliefs to guide, reduce or eliminate negative beliefs about vaccines.Öğe The mediating roles of grit and life satisfaction in the relationship between self-discipline and peace: Development of the self-discipline scale(Springer, 2022) Simsir, Zeynep; Dilmac, BulentSelf-discipline pervasively impacts most aspects of human life. It also promotes numerous human behaviors with positive psychological outcomes. Two studies were conducted within the scope of this research. The aim of the first study was to develop and test the psychometric properties of the self-discipline scale (SDS) for adults. Validity and reliability analyses were conducted on two different samples attending different universities in Turkey.
