    Compound Verbs in Mehekku'l-Ilim Ve'l-Ulema

    Mehekku'l-Ilim ve'l-Ulema is a Classical Ottoman Turkish period work and its author or interpreter is unknown. The work is notable in terms of showing the progress of labial harmony process. This essay aimed to research compound verbs in Mehekku'l-Ilim ve'l-Ulema which is written in Ottoman Turkish period, and contribute to studies in this field. Compoud verb, corresponds a single notion and consists of a noun and an auxiliary verb, or two different verb shapes, or one or multiple noun-originated words and a full verb. Turkish language practices upon compound verb pattern while verbifying foreign originated nouns in a widespread manner. In the work which would be examined, the compound verbs that their first components are mostly foreign originated and limited number of Turkish originated words are used as a noun in such compounds. In this essay, different categorisations on compound verbs are not included elaborately, since this study is carried on through text. Compound verbs on the text is examined in four categories: Compound verbs constructed with auxilary verbs, compound verbs consists of participle and auxilary verbs: complex verbs, compound verbs consists of a noun and full verb, compound verbs consists of gerundium and a verbs: descriptive verbs.

    CORRECTION RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SOME HOMONYMY WORDS IN THE TURKISH GLOSSARY

    The first edition of the Turkish Dictionary, published in 1945, contains 32104 glossary items. In the latest edition published in 2011 (11th edition), this number increased to 92292. Scanning new literary works would increase this number. Studies deal with the Turkish Dictionary structurally allows for a more accurate evaluation of the items in the Dictionary. In the Turkish Dictionary, some words with different roots and different meanings are categorized under a single glossary item. In this study, 36 similar words with different meanings and different roots were identified. These words have been evaluated under 18 items in Turkish Dictionary. It is important to list these glossary items separately in the Turkish Dictionary in terms of creating a more etymologically correct dictionary and revealing the number of glossary items owned by the Turkish Dictionary.

    Labial Harmony in Netayicu'l-A'mal ve Menahicu'l-Ebrar

    Netayicu'l-A'mal ve Menahicu'l-Ebrar, whose their authors and interpretators are still unknown, belongs to Classical Ottoman Turkish era and have significant importance in terms of showing the progression of labial harmony process. This article aims to contribute to the studies on this field by focusing on labial harmony in Netayicu'l-A'mal ve Menahicu'l-Ebrar. Liabial harmony is not a dominant feature over the words of Turkish in its every era and range. It has progressed historically in Western Turkish. In Old Anatolian Turkish the general tendency would be towards labiazation. Even though some examples that abide with harmony rule could be seen from end of Old Anatolian Turkish, labial harmony process in Western Turkish had commenced in early decades of Classical Ottoman Turkish and was completed at the end of the same period. In Netayicu'l-A'mal ve Menahicu'l-Ebrar along with words that bear examples for laible harmony process, there are also contrary examples to this process. The examples in the text that are contrary to labial harmony had generated a new inharmoniousness. Some new samples of inharmoniousness, that in some cases, depend on plainness or labialization which might be called reverse inharmoniousness. In this article word bases and affixes consist of close rounded and close unrounded vowels which were found in the text have been studied.

    A SYNTACTIC TERM: PROPER NOUN GROUP

    There are some differences and deficiencies on contents, explanations, and usages of certain concepts in Turkish resources. Different concepts may sometimes would be named with the same term. This usage is against to the logic of naming. Because a concept can be used just for one term, a single term cannot be used for more than one concept. Structures such as Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Yahya Kemal Beyatli, Resat Nuri Guntekin are defined as a compound noun or a compound noun group Turkish in syntactical resources. Likewise, structures such as hanimeli, ayakkabi are also defined as compound noun. Two different structures such as Resat Nuri Guntekin and hanimeli should be defined with different terms. Combinations consist of different word groups and common nouns, and combinations consist of proper nouns without suffixes shouldn't be defined with different terms. In our study, grammatical definition of the term of proper noun group in resources are stated, and its content and extent is evaluated. In the light of these information this study offers proper noun group term for the structures such as Resat Nuri Guntekin.
