Öğe Examination of the Relationship between Cyberbullying and Cyber Victimization(Springer, 2020) Yildiz Durak, Hatice; Saritepeci, MustafaBehaviors which are conducted via information technologies, which are irritating, and which cause psychological strain for the individuals are categorized as cyberbullying (CB). Cyber victimization (CV), on the other hand, expresses exposure to CB behaviors. In this study, we utilize General Strain Theory (GST) as the theoretical basis to examine the relationship between CB and exposure to CV among university students. GST explains that individuals may display aberrant behaviors in order to alleviate psychological strains and the negative emotions they experience. Accordingly, individuals who experienced CV may display CB when the conditions are suitable. With that in mind, we examined the relationship between CB and CV using a relational screening model with participation of 3302 university students. We found, consistent with the literature, a direct relationship between CB and CV in all models. However, it was determined that their mediating effects are not meaningful when the variables of metacognitive and digital data security awareness (DDSA) are added to the model separately. When these two variables are added to the model together as the mediator at the same time, DDSA negatively mediates the relation between CB and CV. Including various activities aiming to develop DDSA within intervention programs for CB and CV, may improve positive outcomes for participants.Öğe The model for middle school students' computational identity(Springer, 2023) Yildiz Durak, HaticeExamining middle school students' computational identity development, personal, situational variables and programming experiences through the lens of identity may offer an opportunity to explore the dynamic relationship between individual, academic and social influences in computer science and CI. The aim of this study is to examine the variables explaining middle school students' computational identities. The participants of this research consist of middle school students in Turkey. In this study, data were collected using a personal information form and 3 scales. As a result of the research, the programming actualization identity structure was prominent in middle school students. Students' programming variables and their levels are related to all aspects of CI. The results of the study have the potential to raise awareness among educators about which opportunities and experiences are more important to improve student participation and equity in computer and programming education.Öğe Modeling of Relationship of Personal and Affective Variables With Computational Thinking and Programming(Springer, 2023) Yildiz Durak, Hatice; Saritepeci, Mustafa; Durak, AykutComputational thinking skill is one of the basic skills required for every individual, such as reading and writing. For the development of CT, programming education is seen as the key. In the context of programming and CT relationship, it is very important to model individual characteristics and various affective variables with a holistic approach in the programming process. The purpose of this study is to determine and model the relationships of some individual characteristics, personal and affective variables for programming, with CT. One hundred and eighty-one middle school students participated in the implementation. As a result of the research, it was determined that there is a significant relationship between personal variables and attitude towards programming and interest in programming. On the other hand, it has been determined that there is no significant relationship between personal characteristics and self-efficacy for programming and the importance given to programming. In this model, the most influential predictor of attitude and interest towards programming was gender.Öğe Modeling the factors related to sensibility in cyberbullying of university students(Springer, 2023) Yildiz Durak, Hatice; Avci, UmmuhanIt is crucial to raise awareness against cyberbullying, increase sensibility, and identify effective factors to prevent this behavior. The purpose of this study is to model the factors associated with the cyberbullying sensibility of university students. 131 university students participated in the study. Participants were selected through purposive sampling based on their experience with using digital technologies. Data were collected using a self-description form and four scales. Partial Least Squares (PLS) structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to model the variables associated with cyberbullying vulnerability. As a result of the research, while family harmony was associated with social media use intensity, multiscreen addiction, and psychological well-being, it was not associated with academic success. Social media use intensity is associated with multiscreen addiction. Multiscreen addiction is related to academic success and sensibility to cyberbullying. While there is no relationship between psychological well-being and academic success, there is a significant relationship between sensibility in cyberbullying.Öğe Smartphone Addiction, Loneliness, Narcissistic Personality, and Family Belonging Among University Students: A Path Analysis(Wiley, 2021) Gokcearslan, Sahin; Yildiz Durak, Hatice; Berikan, Burcu; Saritepeci, MustafaBackground The relationship between smartphone addiction (SPA) and loneliness is examined in several studies, however, the mediating effects of the variables related to narcissism and the family on the relationship between SPA and loneliness are not yet available in the literature. Objective The present study investigates the role of SPA on loneliness and the moderating effects of narcissistic personality and family belonging on loneliness. Participants and Setting Data required for research were obtained via an online survey from undergraduate students (n = 500) studying at a public university. Methods In the study, the relationship between the variables was determined by path analysis. Results The results of the path analysis show that there is a significant positive relationship between SPA and loneliness. According to the model, no significant relationship was found between narcissistic personality and family-belonging level. There is a negative and significant mediation effect between SPA and narcissistic personality traits. There is a positive and significant mediation effect between SPA and family belonging. The results of the research are discussed with regard to university students and future directions. Conclusions According to these research results, SPA predicts loneliness. As the level of family belonging decreases, SPA increases. The relationship between university students and their families and environments is among the variables that should be considered when evaluating SPA.
