dc.description.abstractGevale Kalesi ismini Frig tanrısı Vybele' den almaktadır. Kalenin ismi tarihi kaynaklarda ve seyahatnamelerde Cybele isminin Sibel, Sibele, Kübel, Kübele, Küvel, Küvele, Kiveli, Kivele, Kevele, Kebele, Hubel, Hobal gibi bazen de kelimenin birinci harfi biraz yumuşatılarak Gevele ve Gebeie gibi farklı okunuşlarıyla geçmektedir. Kale Roma, Bizans ve Selçuklu dönemlerinde önemini korumuş ve Rumun Kilidi olarak görülmüştür. Selçuklu döneminde ise elçilerin bu kalede kabul edildikleri ve sultanın kale çevresinde av ve eğlenceler düzenlediği kaynaklarda bahsedilmektedir. Selçuklu devletinin zayıflaması üzerin Eşrefoğlu Süleyman Bey kaleyi kısa süreliğine elinde tutmuştur. Daha sonra Karamanoglu Musa Bey tarafından ele geçirilen kale yüzelli yıl Karamanogulları himayesinde kalmıştır. M. 1466-1467 yıllarında Fatih'in Karaman seferi sırasında kale alınarak Osmanlı sınırlarına katılmıştır. Osmanlı döneminde kale farkı görevler üstlenmiş olup bunlardan biri ise hilalin en iyi gözlemlenebilen yer olması ve Ramazan ayının başlatılması hususunda kaynaklarda yer aldığını görmekteyiz. Tarih boyunca önemeli rol oynaması ve stratejik bir öneme sahip olan kale ayrıca farklı dönemlere ait buluntuları içeren I. Derece Arkeolojik Sit alanıdır. Kalede yapılan kazılarda çalışmalarında çok sayıda sırlı ve sırsız seramikler ele geçmiş bu seramiklerden sırlı olanlar ise 13. ve 15. yüzyılları arasında tarihlenmiştir. Son olarak seramikler tasnif edilerek değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractGevale Castle is named after the Phrygian god Vybele. The name of the castle in historical sources and travelogues is mentioned by different pronounciation of Cybele like Sibel, Sibele, Kübel, Kübele, Küvel, Küvele, Kivele, Kiveli, Kevele, Kebele, Hubel, Hobal and sometimes by softening slightly the first letter of the Word such as Gevele and Gebeie. The Castle preserved its importance during the Roman, Byzantine and Seljuk periods and were regarded as the Greek Lock. In the Seljuk period, it is mentioned in the sources where the ambassadors were accepted in this castle and the sultan organized hunting and entertainment around the castle. Upon the weakening of the Seljuk state, Eşrefoğlu Süleyman Bey held the castle a short time. Then, the castle which was captured by Karamanoglu Musa Bey, remained under the auspices of Karamanogullar for 150 years. In 1466-1467 BC, While Fatih's Karaman expedition, the castle was occupied and was joined the borders of Ottoman. In the Ottoman period, the castle undertook different tasks, one of which is the most observable place of the crescent moon, and we see that it takes place in the sources of the month of Ramadan. The castle, which has a significant role throughout history and has a strategic importance, is also the 1st degree archaeological site which contains the finds from different periods. A large number of glazed and unglazed ceramics were recovered in the excavations at the castle and these glazed ceramics were dated between the 13th and 15th centuries.
