The Effects of National Education Curriculum for Special Education Institutions on Visual Peception Levels of Children with Mild Mental Retardation

Özet

The purpose of the present study is to examine the effect of Mentally Challenged Individual Support Program on visual perception in children with mild mental disabilities in Private Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers. The independent variable of the study is the Ministry of National Education program and the dependent variable is the visual perception levels of children. The study was carried out on a single group pretest-posttest model. The study group consists of 13 children with mild mental disabilities who are assigned randomly. Frosting Visual Perception Test and Ankara Developmental Inventory were used as assessment tools. While analyzing the data Mann Whitney U-Test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used. In order to test the differences alpha = 0.05 was taken as the significance level. According to the findings of the study, post-test average scores of children with mild mental dissabilities regarding eye-motor coordination, shape figure and spatial relation subdimensions had meaningful differences.
