dc.description.abstractBu tez, Orta Çağ Latin İbn Rüşdcülüğünün en dikkat çekici isimlerinden biri olan Brabantlı Siger’in düşüncesini ele almakta ve 13. yüzyıldaki felsefi gelişmelerdeki rolünü incelemektedir. Siger’in hayatı, eserleri ve entelektüel mirasını analiz edilerek onun Aristoteles’in öğretileri ve İbn Rüşd’ün yorumlarıyla olan ilişkisi aydınlatılmaktadır. Araştırmada, Siger’in felsefesinin ana temaları olan felsefe ve teoloji ilişkisi, Nefs-i Nâtıka bağlamında aklın birliği öğretisi ve alemin ezeliliği üzerinde durulmaktadır. Ayrıca, dönemin tartışmalarını şekillendiren ve İbn Rüşdcülük akımını hedef alan 1270 ve 1277 yıllarındaki kınamalar ele alınmaktadır. Tez, Siger’in düşüncesi üzerindeki belirleyici etkisi olan İbn Rüşd’ün, özellikle Aristoteles üzerine yaptığı yorumların 13. yüzyıl Paris’teki entelektüel tartışmalardaki rolünü incelemektedir. İbn Rüşdcülüğün o dönemde üniversite çevrelerinde nasıl algılandığı ve bu fikirlerin inanç ile akıl arasındaki ilişkiyi yeniden şekillendirmedeki katkısı ortaya konulmaktadır. Son olarak, Siger’in sonraki dönem felsefesine olan etkisi ele alınarak, düşüncelerinin akılcılık, teoloji ve felsefi düşüncenin özerkliği üzerindeki tartışmalara nasıl katkı sağladığı analiz edilmektedir. Bu inceleme, Batı Orta Çağı’ndaki entelektüel etkileşimlerin İslam felsefesi bağlamında bir incelenmesini hedeflemektedir.
dc.description.abstractThis thesis explores the thought of Siger of Brabant, one of the most prominent figures of Latin Averroism, and examines his role in the philosophical developments of the 13th century. Through an analysis of Siger’s life, works, and intellectual legacy, it sheds light on his relationship with the teachings of Aristotle and the interpretations of Averroes (Ibn Rushd). The study focuses on key themes in Siger’s philosophy, including the relationship between philosophy and theology, the doctrine of the unity of intellect in the context of the rational soul (Nafs al-Natiqa), and the concept of the eternity of the world. Additionally, it addresses the condemnations of 1270 and 1277, which targeted the Averroist movement and shaped the intellectual debates of the period. The thesis also examines the decisive influence of Averroes on Siger’s thought, particularly through his commentaries on Aristotle, and explores the role of these interpretations in the intellectual discussions of 13th-century Paris. It highlights how Averroism was perceived in academic circles of the time and the contribution of these ideas to redefining the relationship between faith and reason. Finally, the impact of Siger on subsequent philosophical thought is analyzed, revealing how his ideas influenced debates on rationality, theology, and the autonomy of philosophical inquiry. This study aims to investigate the intellectual interactions of the Latin Middle Ages within the framework of Islamic philosophy.
