Özet
Banksy daha çok toplumsal olayları içeren duvar resimleri ile günümüz sanatına damga vurmuş özgün karakterlerden birisidir. Banksy’nin bu özgünlüğü çağdaş sanata kazandırmış olduğu görsel içeriklere yeni bir anlamlandırma çabasından kaynaklanmaktadır. Bu bağlamda düşünüldüğünde, “Banksy” ismi bir sanat markası olarak ön plana çıkmakta ancak gerçek kimliğiyle ilgili tam olarak bir bilgi bulunmamaktadır. “Banksy’nin Duvar Resimlerinde Yazı ve Resim İlişkisi” adlı bu araştırmada, Banksy’nin duvar resimlerini biçim ve içerik ilişkisi yönünden incelemek, yazı ve resim bütünlüğü çerçevesinde ortaya konulan toplumsal mesajları değerlendirmek, Banksy’i özgün kılan noktaları belirlemek ve toplumsal bir iletişim aracı olarak eserlerinin nasıl bir yazı ve resim ilişkisine sahip olduğunu ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaca ulaşmak için Banksy’nin bütün çalışmaları incelenmiş ve bu çalışmada değerlendirebilmek üzere kendi web sitesi üzerinden elde edilen 15 adet eserden faydalanılmıştır. Bu tez çalışması, literatür (alan yazım) taramasına dayalı bir araştırmadır. Araştırmanın Kavramsal Çerçeve Bölümünde tarih öncesi duvar resminin ortaya çıkışından yazının bulunuşuna, Türk Sanatı tarihinden, günümüz Batı Sanatının Modernizm çerçevesinde ortaya koyduğu duvar resmi örneklerine, grafitinin ortaya çıkışından, grafitide kullanılan yöntem ve tekniklere kadar birçok konuya yer verilmiştir. Ayrıca başlıca grafiti sanatçılarına ve günümüzde grafiti alanında dünyaca ün kazanmış ve bu araştırmaya konu olan Banksy’e ve onun duvar resimlerine yer verilmiştir. Araştırmanın Bulgular ve Yorumlar Bölümünde Banksy’nin resim ve yazı içerikli 15 adet duvar resmi ele alınmış; eserlerin adı, tekniği, tarihi, yeri, konusu, boyutu vb. özellikleri göz önünde bulundurularak betimlemesi yapılmış, konu ve anlam ilişkisi üzerinden çözümleme yapılmış ve yorumlar yapılarak eser analizleri tamamlanmıştır. Analizler ile beraber Banksy’nin özgün tarzda eserler ortaya koyduğu, fiziksel tanınırlığı ve görünürlüğü önemsediği, eserleriyle sanat gündeminde bulunduğu, toplumsal duyarlılığa sahip bir sanatçı olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca Banksy’nin resimlerindeki kompozisyon ve görsel anlatım dilindeki başarısının yanı sıra tipografik unsurları grafiti sanatına nitelikli biçimde kazandırdığı ve böylece bir marka değer olduğu da görülmüştür.
Banksy is one of the original characters who has left his mark on today's art with his murals that mostly cover social events. Banksy's individuality stems from his effort to give a new meaning to the visual content he has brought to contemporary art. When considered in this context, the name "Banksy" comes to the forefront as an art brand, but there is no exact information about his real identity. In this research titled "TextImage Relationship in Banksy's Murals", it is aimed to analyze Banksy's murals in terms of form and content relationship and to evaluate the social messages put forward within the framework of image-text integrity, to determine the points that make Banksy unique and to reveal what kind of image-text relationship his works have as a social communication tool. In order to achieve this goal, Banksy's works were analyzed and 15 works obtained from his website were utilized. This thesis is a literature review based research. In the Conceptual Framework Section of the research, many topics ranging from the emergence of prehistoric wall painting to the invention of writing, from the history of Turkish Art to the examples of wall paintings put forward by today's Western Art within the framework of Modernism, from the emergence of graffiti to the methods and techniques used in graffiti are included in the research. In addition, the primary graffiti artists and Banksy, who has gained world fame in the field of graffiti today and who is the subject of this research, and his murals are included. In the Findings and Interpretations Section of the research, 15 of Banksy's murals with painting and writing content were analyzed; descriptions were made by taking the title, technique, date, location, subject, size, etc. of the works into account, analysis was made through the relationship between subject and meaning, and the analysis of the works was concluded by making interpretations. Based on the analyses, it has been reached to the conclusion that Banksy creates works in an unique style, that he cares about physical recognition and visibility, that he is on the art agenda with his works, and that he is an artist who has social sensitivity. In addition to his success in composition and visual expression language in the paintings, it can also be seen that Banksy brings typographic elements to graffiti in a qualified way and thus becomes a brand value.
