dc.description.abstractGünümüz iş dünyasında birçok işletme, Çevresel, Sosyal ve Kurumsal Yönetim (ESG) faaliyetlerini entegre raporlar, sürdürülebilirlik raporları veya faaliyet raporları adı altında düzenli olarak paydaşlarının bilgisine sunmaktadır. Literatürde işletmelerin gerçekleştirdiği ESG faaliyetlerinin hem paydaşlara hem de işletmelere faydaları yönünden farklı sonuçlar bulunmaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın ilk amacı işletmelerin yaptıkları ESG faaliyetlerinin işletmelerin performanslarına olası etkilerinin farklı örneklemlere göre tespit edilebilmesidir. Çalışmanın ikinci amacı ise ESG faaliyetleri ile işletmelerin finansal performansları arasında anlamlı ilişkinin varlığında entelektüel sermayenin aracılık etkisinin araştırılmasıdır. Çalışmada, Refinitiv Eikon veri tabanında 2010-2021 yılları arasında en az 8 yıllık verisi olan 1296 şirketin 13,817 gözlemi kullanılmıştır. Ülkelerin finansal gelişmişlik düzeylerine ve hukuk sistemlerine göre örneklemler oluşturularak analizler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Analiz sonuçları, ESG faaliyetlerinin her işletme için finansal performansa etkisinin net bir şekilde pozitif ya da negatif olamayacağını göstermektedir. Entelektüel sermayenin aracılık etkisi bakımından analiz sonuçları incelendiğinde ise entelektüel sermayenin bazı örneklemlerde kısmi aracılık etkisinin olduğunu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
dc.description.abstractIn today's business world, many companies regularly present their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) activities to their stakeholders through integrated reports, sustainability reports, or activity reports. The literature presents varying results regarding the benefits of ESG activities for both stakeholders and businesses themselves. In this context, the first objective of this study is to determine the possible effects of ESG activities on the performance of enterprises across different samples. The second objective of the study is to investigate the mediating effect of intellectual capital on the relationship between ESG activities and the financial performance of enterprises. In the study, 13,817 observations of 1,296 companies with at least 8 years of data between 2010 and 2021 in the Refinitiv Eikon database are used. Samples were formed and analyzed according to the financial development levels and legal systems of the countries. The results of the analysis show that the impact of ESG activities on financial performance cannot be clearly determined as positive or negative for every business. When analyzing the mediating effect of intellectual capital, it is concluded that intellectual capital has a partial mediating effect in some samples.
