| dc.description.abstract | İş çevrimlerinin dinamikleri ve karakteristikleri makroekonominin en tartışmalı konularından birini oluşturmaktadır. Konuya ilişkin literatür öncelikle gelişmiş ülkelerde iş çevrimlerinin ölçülmesi, süresinin belirlenmesi ve nedenleri üzerine odaklanmıştır. İktisadi sorunların meydan okumasına paralel olarak ortaya çıkan makroekonomik okullar, iş çevrimlerinin dinamiklerine ilişkin farklı öneriler geliştirmiştir. Diğer taraftan gelişmekte olan ve özellikle yükselen piyasa ekonomilerin küresel ekonomi içinde paylarının artması, bu ülkelerdeki iş çevrimlerinin de detaylı bir şekilde incelenmesine yol açmıştır. Bu tezin amacı, yükselen piyasa ekonomilerinde, geleneksel uyarım mekanizmalarına ek olarak, finansal derinleşmenin iş çevrimi üzerindeki etkisini ampirik olarak test etmektir. Bu hipotez, verisi mevcut olan 11 (on bir) yükselen ekonomi için 1960-2014 dönemine ilişkin yıllık veriler kullanılarak panel ekonometri yöntemleriyle test edilmiştir. Ampirik bulgular, geleneksel uyarım mekanizması içinde yer alan kamu harcamaları, dışa açıklık ve enflasyon oranının iş çevrimi üzerinde etkili olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Bunlara ek olarak, finansal derinleşmenin (financial deepening) iş çevrimi üzerindeki etkisi, seçilen finansal derinleşme göstergesine duyarlılık göstermektedir. Seçilen yükselen piyasa ekonomilerinde finansal derinleşme iş çevrimini yumuşatırken, finansal sığlaşma (financial shallowing) iş çevriminin frekansını arttırmaktadır. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Dynamics and characteristics of business cycles is one of the hotly debated issues in macroeconomics. Literature initially focuses on the measurement of business cycles, their frequencies and its determinants in the developed countries. The macroeconomic schools emerged historically from the challenges of economic issues has theoretically proposed various dynamics for business cycles. In addition, increase in the share of the developing and emerging market economies on the global economy brings about a detailed investigation of business cycles in these countries. The aim of this thesis is to empirically test the effect of financial deepening, along with the traditional indicators proposed in various theoretical approaches, on business cycle in the emerging market economies. This hypothesis is investigated by using annual data for the period 1960-2014 for 11 emerging countries selected based on the availability of data and by employing panel data approaches. Empirical findings show that traditional indicators that include public spending, openness and inflation have affected the business cycles in these countries. In addition, impact of financial deepening on business cycle is very sensitive to the selection of financial deepening indicators. While financial deepening smoothens business cycle and financial shallowing increases the frequency of business cycle in these emerging market economies. | en_US |
