The endeavor to achieve the desired goal in foreign language teaching has led to the emergence or development of new foreign language teaching or learning methods in accordance with the development of scientific knowledge and social changes from the past to the present. The methods in foreign language teaching have emerged in order to close the shortcomings or inadequacies of a method used. In the 1970s, the functional and communicative aspects of language gained importance in language teaching and this is how the communicative approach emerged. The communicative approach argues that real-life materials and teaching and the types of activities organized using this approach add to the persistence of learning. This study emphasizes the importance of pragmalinguistics, the linguistic basis of the communicative approach, to DaF lessons. Pragmalinguistics is defined as the study of language use in communication, particularly the relationships between sentences and the context and situations. The main function of pragmatics in foreign language teaching is to acquire communication skills and teach students vocabulary on topics that are useful in real life. This study examines foreign language teaching before and after pragmatics and shows the effect of pragmatics on foreign language teaching.
