Özet
Turizm sektörünün önemi her geçen gün daha da artmaktadır. Ülkeler bu sektörün ekonomik faydalarından yararlanmak için politikalar geliştirmekte ve daha fazla turistin ülkelerine gelmesi için çaba sarf etmektedirler. Bu noktada turizm talebini belirleyen faktörlerin belirlenmesi hem özel sektör hem de kamu sektöründeki politika yapıcılar açısından önem arz etmektedir. Bu tezin amacı en fazla turist çeken ilk 10 ülkedeki ve Türkiye'deki turizm talebini etkileyen faktörlerin neler olduğunu belirlemek ve elde edilen bulgular ışığında kesişen ve ayrışan noktalar dikkate alınarak politika önerilerinde bulunmaktır.Tez, 1995-2011 dönemini kapsayan veri seti yardımıyla panel birim kök, panel eşbütünleşme, panel hata düzeltme tahmincilerini kullanılarak; gelir, fiyat ilişkisi, arz kapasitesi, döviz kuru ve politik istikrar değişkenlerinin turizm talebi üzerinde etkili olup olmadıkları belirlenmeye çalışılmaktadır. Ampirik analizlerden elde edilen bulgular, oluşturulan modellerdeki değişkenlerin turizm talebi üzerinde beklenilen etkileri gösterdiğine dair kanıtlar sunmaktadır. En fazla turist çeken ilk 10 ülkeye yönelik turizm talebi ile Türkiye'ye yönelik turizm talebinin belirleyicilerinin büyük ölçüde örtüştüğü görülmektedir. Bulgular makro ekonomik değişkenlerin turizm sektörü üzerinde önemli ölçüde belirleyici role sahip olduğunu göstermektedir.
Importance of tourism sector has been increasing day by day. Countries develop policies to maximize the economic effects of this sector and try to pay more attention to attract more tourists to their countries. In this vein, it is very important to empirically investigate the determinants of tourism demand for the policy makers both in public and private sectors. The aim of this thesis is to examine the factors that affect the demand for tourism both in the most attractive first 10 countries and Turkey for tourist and to propose policy implications from the light of empirical findings that may have a common and unique feature. The thesis, by employing panel unit root, panel cointegration, panel error cointegration approach and by utilizing the data for the period 1995-2011, tries to determine whether income, price stability, supply capacity, exchange rate and political stability has any impacts on demand for tourism. Results obtained from the analysis provide empirical evidence that variables employed in the models influence the demand for tourism as expected. Determinants of the demand for tourism in the most attractive 10 countries and Turkey for tourist are, to a great extend, common. Findings show that macroeconomic variables have an important role in determining demand for tourism.
